PCMark benchmark released for Android

PCMark for Android

Futuremark has released PCMark benchmarking tool for Android. It has Work benchmark that lets you measure both performance and battery life. It also shows you how your device’s CPU clock frequency, CPU average usage, temperature and battery charge level changed while the benchmark was running.  The app is 23 MB, and the Work benchmark is a 400 MB download, installed when you first run the app. More benchmarks will be added over time, says the company.

Lava has launched QPAD R704, the company’s latest tablet in the QPAD series. It has a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) display, similar to the QPAD e704 tablet that was launched earlier this year, but this is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor instead of a Broadcom processor. It runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) that is upgradable to Android 4.4 (KitKat), has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera. Google debuts free one minute Hangout call to 25 countries including India

Google has supported free phone calls to the U.S. and Canada through Hangouts for over a month. Today, the company is offering free one minute calls for 25 other countries including India. The initiative that is limited till end of 2014 will offer first minute of any international call free for the listed 25 countries.

Celkon has launched XION S CT6595, the company’s latest phablet. It has a 6.95-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.4..2 (KitKat). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing camera. We had seen several top-end phablets from several Indian OEMs, but this is one of the few phablets priced less than Rs. 10,000. Asus Zenfone series and Padfone devices to receive Android 5.0 update in 2015

Asus will release Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its Zenfone series of smartphones along with a couple of Padfone devices. The Taiwanese electronic makers plan about the update has been leaked on company’s ZenTalk forum.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge launched in Korea

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note Edge, the company’s first smartphone with a curved edge screen in their homeground Korea. It was announced at IFA last month and packs a 5.6-inch (1440 x 2560 pixels) QHD Super AMOLED display that is curved on the right side that utilizes 160 pixels and gives you access to frequently used apps, alerts and device functionality even when the cover is closed. The Korean variant is powered by a Octa-Core Exynos (1.9GHz Cortex A15 + 1.3GHz Cortex A7) processor. It runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with new Samsung UI, comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera with Smart OIS and a 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera with f/1.9 aperture. Amazon introduces Fire TV Stick, a $39 streaming stick

Months after introducing the Fire TV, an Android-based streaming box, Amazon has introduced Fire TV Stick, the company’s first streaming stick and the competitor of Google Chromecast stick. It connects to the HDMI port on HDTV and uses USB port for Power, similar to Chromecast so that you can stream content such as movies, TV shows, music, photos, apps, and games from Amazon content library, mirror your phone or a tablet and automatically upload photos or videos to Amazon Cloud Drive. LG isai VL with 5.5-inch Quad HD display, 3GB RAM and VoLTE announced

LG introduced the Isai FL (LGL24) for Japanese operator KDDI back in May. Today the company has refreshed the smartphone and introduced a new variant called isai VL (LGV31) with 3GB RAM and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) support. Other specifications are similar to the Isai FL, including a 5.5-inch (2560×1440 pixels) Quad HD IPS display, 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330, Android 4.4 (KitKat), 13.2-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, 4K video recording and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Now the Obi Fox S453 and Racoon S401, two new budget smartphones are available for purchase online from Indiatimes Shopping and Saholic. The Obi Fox S453 has a 4.5-inch FWVGA screen and the Racoon S401 has a 4-inch WVGA screen. Both these are powered by dual-core MediaTek processors, run on Android 4.4 (KitKat), come with 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
