LG posts highest quarterly operating profit in 8 years in Q1 2017

LG Electronics has reported revenues of 14.66 trillion won (US$ 12.70 billion) in the first quarter that ended March 31, 2017, which is up 9.7% compared to the same quarter last year. It has reported operating income of 921.5 billion won (US$ 798.3 million), up 82.4% for the same quarter in 2016, after a operating loss of 35.2 billion won in the last quarter. This is LG’s highest quarterly operating income in eight years, driven by increase in sales in Home Appliance & Air Solutions Company. Samsung profits up 48% YoY in Q1 2017, mobile profits down 46% due to weak S7 sales

Samsung has reported its earnings for Q1 2017, in which the company has made operating profit of 9.90 trillion won ($8.7 billion), up 48.20% YoY for the quarter that ended March 31, 2017. This is its second biggest quarter ever and its highest ever for Q1, mainly to due to increase in memory and display businesses. It reported revenue of 50.55 trillion won (US$ $44.7), a slight increase from 49.78 trillion won last year and net profit of 7.68 trillion won (US$6.8 billion), a 46% increase from 5.25 trillion won for the same period a year earlier. ZUK Mobile reportedly shutting down in the coming weeks

Lenovo’s ZUK Mobile is reportedly shutting down after two years, according to Chinese analyst Pan Jiutang, who revealed this when a weibo user @Old Cool mentioned that ZUK will not reveal Z3 smartphone as the successor to ZUK Z2. Google confirms list of Chromebooks that will get Play Store and Android Apps

Google started rolling out Play Store and Android apps for Chromebooks back in June last year. Later it expanded to more Chromebooks – Dell Chromebook 13, HP 13, Samsung Chromebook 3, and ASUS C301SA. Now it has listed Acer Chromebook R11 (CB5-132T, C738T), AOpen Chromebox Mini, AOpen Chromebase Mini, Asus Chromebook Flip C100PA, Google Chromebook Pixel (2015) and Samsung Chromebook Plus supports Android apps in stable channel. Meizu E2 with 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB RAM, 13MP camera with 4-LED flash announced

Meizu today announced E2, the company’s latest smartphone in the ‘E series’ in China, as it had promised. It packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display, is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P20 processor and runs on Flyme OS 6.0 powered by YunOS. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with 4-LED dual-tone flash arranged in the antenna bands that promises bright and clear images even in poor lighting conditions. Apple today announced that Apple Dubai Mall, its second store in Dubai and third in the United Arab Emirates will be opened on April 27th. Apple said that its first two stores in the United Arab Emirates have welcomed more than 4 million visitors since opening in Dubai and Abu Dhabi 18 months ago. The ZTE Blade Max 3 packs 13-megapixel dual rear cameras and a 4000mAh battery. The MAX XL runs on Android 7.1 (Nougat) and packs a 3990mAh battery. Samsung Galaxy S8 to get software patches for reddish screen tint and patchy Wi-Fi connections

Samsung has announced that it will roll out software patches for its flagship Galaxy S8 smartphone after some complained of reddish tint on the screen and WiFi issue that doesn’t let them connect to WiFi networks. Samsung said that neither the screen hue nor the Wi-Fi issue were product defects, and that it was offering fixes simply for consumers’ comfort. Qualcomm Signs 3G/4G Patent License Agreement with Smartron, has over 330 licensees globally

Qualcomm today announced that it has entered into a 3G and 4G patent license agreement with Indian OEM Smartron. Under the deal, Qualcomm has granted Smartron a royalty-bearing patent license to develop, manufacture and sell WCDMA, CDMA2000, and 4G LTE complete devices. Last year Qualcomm singed 3G and 4G patent license agreement with several Chinese companies such as Lenovo, OPPO, Gionee, Vivo and more.
