BlackBerry has rolled out an update for its BBM app on BlackBerry 10, Android and iPhone that gets new privacy features such as  Timed Messages feature that lets you set a timer to control how long messages and pictures you share with contacts can be viewed and Message retraction feature that lets you cancel the message in case if you had sent it to the wrong person. Sony reports Q2 FY14 results, 9.9 million smartphones shipped

Sony Corporation today reported net loss of 85.6 billion yen ($785 million) for its second quarter of the financial year 2014 that ended September 30th. Even though it shipped 9.9 million smartphone in the quarter, mobile communications division has reported an operating loss of 172 billion yen ($1.6 billion) for the quarter.

Google Camera updated with Material Design, Android 5.0 Lollipop compatibility

Google Camera app version 2.4.008 that was present in the Android Lollipop Developer Preview has Material design elements. Today Google has updated the Google Camera app to version 2.4.023 on the Play Store that brings the same material design elements to the app. This update also brings compatibility with Android 5.0 (Lollipop) that would roll out for Nexus devices in coming weeks and includes some improvements and bug fixes. Sennheiser has launched MM 30G, the company’s latest in-ear headset created for Samsung devices. The ear-canal design of the headset passively attenuates ambient noise and has high-end dynamic speaker for a bass driven stereo sound. It has compact in-line remote control for volume control, music or call control and integrated microphone for voice calls.

It has a 5-inch FWVGA IPS display, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with dual LED flash and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support and 3G connectivity. Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 smartphones in its new A Series, after several rumors.Both these smartphones have full metal unibody, slim designs. These are Samsung’s slimmest smartphone to date. The Galaxy A5 is just 6.7mm thick and the Galaxy A3 is 6.9mm thick. These are aimed at young and trend conscious consumers, says the company. Amazon Appstore is back with another free apps offer. Today the company has announced that it would offer 39 paid Android apps and games worth over $115 for free on the Amazon AppStore starting Thursday, 30th October to Saturday, 1st November 2014. Last month the company offered 27 apps worth $135 for free . This time it offers some interesting apps like, Endomondo Sports Tracker PRO, Plex and games like Fruit Ninja, World of Goo, Plants vs. Zombies, Sonic Hedgehog 4 Episode I and more. Rovio, creators of popular Angry Birds game has launched Angry Birds Transformers for Android, couple of after it was launched for iOS, as it promised. This has a different gameplay, compared to other Angry Birds themed games. It has Autobirds, brave band of heroes that features Red as Optimus Prime, Chuck as Bumblebee and more. These have lasers and turn into cars. The Autobirds can’t save Piggy Island on their own – to stop the EggBots they’ll need to join forces with their arch rivals the Deceptihogs. Xiaomi tablet with 9.2-inch display, Snapdragon 410 SoC shows up in benchmarks

Xiaomi introduced their first tablet, the Mi Pad back in May, now a 9.2-inch tablet with 1280 x 720 pixels display and a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor with Adreno 306 GPU has surfaced on GFXBench database. The tablet that runs on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat), according to the listing, doesn’t have a name yet. This was first spotted by Gizmobic. Truecaller launches Truedialer, a smart dialer app for Android

Developers of Truecaller Caller ID app has launched Truedialer, a smart dialer app for Android. It was launched for Windows Phone 8 few months back, it recently got updated with real-time Caller ID features for Windows Phone 8.1 users. Samsung profits fall in Q3 2014, mobile revenue down 15% QoQ

Samsung has reported its earnings for Q3 2014, in which the company has managed to make operating profit of 4.06 trillion won ($3.9 billion) for the quarter ended September 30, 2014, down from 10.16 trillion won compared to the same quarter last year. It has reported net profit of 4.22 trillion won ($4 billion) on revenues of 47.45trillion won ($45 billion), down 9% compared to the same quarter last year. LG Display announces 5.3-inch 1080p smartphone display with 0.7mm ultra narrow bezel

LG Display has introduced a 5.3-inch Full HD LCD panel for smartphones with just 0.7mm bezel on the sides. The company introduced world’s slimmest 5.2-inch 1080p smartphone display last year, which was just 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel. The new smartphone display becomes the world’s narrow bezel display panel,  narrower than the 0.8mm thickness of a credit card. Sharp introduced the Aquos Crystal and Aquos Crystal X smartphones recently, which had minimal bezel.
