Aakash 2 project completed, 1 Lakh units delivered to Government

Datawind, the company behind the low-cost Aakash tablets has announced that they have completed the Aakash 2 project by supplying 100,000 Aakash low-cost computing devices for IIT-Bombay (under the Indian Government’s Ministry of Human Resources Development’s National Mission for Education through Information Communication Technology). DataWind won the international tender to supply Aakash 1 devices at a cost of $49.98. It was modified to 98,000 Aakash2 devices and 2,000 devices with DataWind’s recommendations for Aakash3 at a cost of Rs.2,263 (~$41.61). Intex has launched the i-Buddy Connect 3G, successor of i-Buddy Connect tablet that was launched last year. It has a 7-inch capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It comes with a 3.2MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. It also comes with pre-loaded Educlass: a smart school application with NCERT text books from class 1- 12 , large repository of question banks and interactive content for various subjects. Samsung Galaxy Note 510 goes on sale in India for Rs. 30900

Samsung started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 510 (GT-N51000) last week. The tablet is now available from their official eStore for Rs. 30900. The Galaxy Note 510 was announced in India at the Samsung India Forum 2013 in Hyderabad last month. It has a 8.0-inch (1280 × 800 pixels) TFT display, powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). It has S Pen support with Air View, S Note, S Planner, Email with hand-writing integration and more. It also comes with 3G support and voice calling. Spice is all set to release the Stellar Slatepad, the company’s first tablet with 3G and voice calling support in the Stellar series. It has a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS. It comes with a 3.2-megapixel auto focus rear camera and has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a SIM card slot that supports 3G and voice calling. Celkon CT888 Tablet that went on sale recently has similar features, but the Spice tablet runs on Android 4.1 and has a better camera. Samsung Galaxy Tab Duos 7.0, Tab 8.0, Tab 11 and Nexus 11 specifications surface

Samsung’s 2013 tablet portfolio to include the Galaxy Tab Duos 7.0, the Galaxy Tab 8.0, the Galaxy Tab 11 and the Nexus 11, according to a report from Sammobile. The Galaxy Tab Duos 7.0 would be a dual SIM version of the Galaxy Tab 2 or the Galaxy Tab 3 that was announced earlier today. It is expected to feature a 7-inch (1024×600) PLS LCD display and powered by a dual-core processor. It would be the first dual SIM tablet from Samsung. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 with 7-inch display, Android 4.1 announced

Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab 3, successor of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 that was unveiled last year. This has a similar 7-inch (1024×600) TFT LCD display, but it is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box. It has a 3-megapixel fixed focus rear-facing camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It would come in Wi-Fi only and 3G variants similar to the previous tablets that would also support voice calling. It also comes with better connectivity support.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Benchmarks

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 8.0 at the MWC 2013 earlier this year. Samsung announced at the Samsung India Forum 2013 in Hyderabad last month that the tablet would launch in India as Galaxy Note 510. Samsung put the Note 510 for pre-order last week at a price tag of Rs. 30,990. Here we have the benchmarks of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 (GT-N5110), Wi-Fi variant of the tablet. Even though the tablet which we tested didn’t have 3G support, the benchmarks are likely to be similar since these are powered by a Exynos 4 Quad (4412) CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz and a Mali-400 MP4 GPU. Same had used this processor in the Galaxy Note 2 that was launched last year.

Lava to launch a new tablet running Android 4.2 next month

Lava Mobiles has announced that it would launch their first tablet running on the latest Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The company launched the E-Tab XTRON, Lava’s first Android tablet running Android 4.1 back in February, which topped most of the benchmarks when compared to other 7-inch tablets. Asus Fonepad Benchmarks

Asus launched the Fonepad in India yesterday at a price tag of Rs. 15999. We brought you the unboxing of the device earlier this week. Here are the benchmarks of the device. The Fonepad is powered by a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Lexington Z2420 single-core processor with Power VR SGX540 GPU. Xolo launched the X500 powered by this processor earlier this year. Google Nexus 7 16GB version went on sale in India from the Google Play Store last month at a price tag of Rs. 15,999. Asus launched the 32GB WiFi and 32GB 3G versions of the tablet in India earlier this month along with the 32GB 3G version priced at Rs. 21,999. Google has started selling 32GB WiFi version of the tablet from the official Google Play Store in India. Google unveiled the Nexus 7 last June, and the 3G version with 32GB storage was announced at the Google I/O in October last year. The Fonepad has a 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display, runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and is powered by a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor. It packs a 3-megapixel auto focus rear camera which supports 720p HD video recording and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. It has metallic finish with a streamlined design. The FonePad is one of the first Intel Atom Z2420 powered Android tablets to hit the market. Asus announced the FonePad at MWC 2013 this year along with the Padfone Infinity. The “FonePad” as the name suggests is a 3G tablet and phone packed into a 7 inch tablet form factor at an affordable price point. Yes there are a couple of microphones and an earpiece on the device and you can actually put the FonePad to the ear and make a phone call although we don’t know if it will look cool. The tablet comes in 2 colours – Champagne Gold and Titanium Gray. Here is a video where we unbox the Champagne Gold version of the Asus FonePad.

Celkon CT888, the company’s new tablet is now available from online retailer Snapdeal. Celkon launched the CT910 tablet with 3G voice calling support recently, but this has a high-resolution 7-inch display and a better processor. The Celkon CT888 has a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor. It runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera and has a VGA front-facing camera. This is cheaper than the Byond Mi-book Mi7 which has a similar display and 3G support, but the Byond tablet has a dual-core processor.
