Google has released an update for the Chrome app for iPhone and iPad to version 28.0.1500.12 that brings Google Apps integration, fullscreen browsing to iPad  and option sign in to other Google apps with a single click. This would let you open Maps, YouTube, Google+, and Google Drive links in the dedicated apps app instead of browser. Google promises that more apps would be available soon. Google has updated the Google Maps app for iOS to version 2.0 that finally brings a new design for iPad. This update also brings new features including enhanced search and navigation, Explore feature and more. LG Optimus L5 gets the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update in India

The LG Optimus L7 got the Android 4.1 update in India back in May, now LG has started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) update for the Optimus L5 (E612) users in India.  The Optimus L5 was announced back in February 2012 and released in India last June. The software version is JZO54K similar to the other countries and the software version is V20c. All the L Series II devices that were launched recently run on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box. WhatsApp moves to subscription-based model on iOS at $0.99/year


WhatsApp collected for $ 0.99 as a one time payment for the iPhone app. Now the company has changed their  business model that would offer the app free for the first year after that the user would be charged $.99  (~Rs. 55) per year after that, similar to other platforms such as Android and Windows Phone. If you had purchased the app already or downloaded the app when it went free it will remain free for the rest of your life. Twitter for BlackBerry 10 gets improved UX and new features with the latest update

Twitter for BlackBerry 10 has been a mixed experience, with it mostly tending to be worse than on other platforms, but thanks to a new update, the real time social network is now better and more functional on BlackBerry 10. Gionee Elife E3 gets an OTA update in India, adds new camera features, new apps and more

Gionee launched the Elife E3 in India back in May. We reviewed the device last month that runs on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). Gionee has announced that they have started rolling out a over-the-air (OTA) update for the device. This update doesn’t upgrade the Android version but brings new Camera features including new modes picture clear, best picture, muli-angle shots and beauty effects. This also adds online wallpaper, support for Indian cities in the weather app, new du batter and  Gionee Xender apps. BlackBerry Messenger 7 with BBM Voice now available in India for BB OS 5 devices and later

BlackBerry launched the BlackBerry Q5, the company’s latest BlackBerry 10 smartphone in India earlier today. At the event,  Sunil Lalvani, Managing Director for India at BlackBerry announced that the BBM 7 with BBM Voice would be available for devices running on BB OS 5 and later. BlackBerry Messenger with BBM Voice was released as beta Back in December last year. Rovio, the creators of Angry birds has announced Angry Birds Star Wars II game, a sequel to the first Angry Birds Star Wars that was released in November last year. The new Angry Birds Star Wars game will follow the story of the three prequel Star Wars movies and would also bring new Angry Birds Star Wars characters including versions of young Anakin, Mace Windu, Darth Maul and more. There are 30 playable characters, most of which remains as a secret. Whatsapp finally gets a huge update on Windows Phone, now with background agent and proper Emoji!

The saga of Whatsapp on Windows Phone has always been fueled with much hate since the app never really worked well out of the box and was always buggy. Having grown massively, Whatsapp left Windows Phone users to a sub par experience when compared with other platforms. The streaming API was hacked up and meddled with music playback and messages stopped refreshing inside the app occasionally. Annoying customers to the core, the app still has only a 3 star rating on the Windows Phone Store, but a new huge update to the app changes everything, again. Fixing all the problems that the app is known for, the company has provided the much needed huge update and looking at the early review, it seems all the major outstanding issues have been fixed.

So, the official Windows Blog has published a Q&A between Nokia’s Kevin Shields and Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore to explain an interesting doubt we’ve been having. What did Microsoft have to do, to accommodate the monstrosity of a sensor’s data into the Windows Phone’s pipes, especially when considering the fact that the MSM8960 chip actually cannot handle more than 20MPs of sensor data. In a teeny tiny statement on Nokia’s Press site, it has been mentioned that the much awaited video based social network Vine is coming to Windows Phone 8 soon, in the official form. Along with Vine, the different social network Path and the best mobile magazine experience Flipboard too is coming to Windows Phone 8 very soon, Nokia announced. It was revealed in Microsoft’s //build/ conference that Flipboard will be coming to Windows 8 and it was then revealed to the press that it was coming to Windows Phone 8 too. With these popular apps coming to the Windows Phone 8, will it finally be relevant at least across casual users? We’ll see.
