Futuremark updates 3DMark Android Benchmark app, delists devices with suspicious scores

Futuremark released the 3D mark Android benchmark app earlier this year. Since a lot of mobile manufactures are said to be cheating to show up higher scores on several benchmarks, the company has released a new update and has also announced that the company would delist devices that are suspicious. When a device is suspected of breaking the rules it is delisted. 3DMark scores from delisted devices should not be used to compare devices. Delisted devices appear unranked, and without scores, at the bottom of the 3DMark Device Channel and the Best Mobile Devices list on our website, says the company. UK-based Inq Mobile has released SO.HO, a social app for Android smartphones earlier this year. The app brings all the social feeds – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc into one homescreen, that lets you conveniently view all the updates in a single place. The app is seamlessly integrated Android launcher app, and lets you tweet, update your status, ‘like’ and comment direct from your homescreen easily. It supports range of languages including Hindi. LINE Messenger clocks 300 million users worldwide, 10 million users in India

LINE corporation, a Japanese-based company has announced that LINE has crossed over 300 million users worldwide, since its launch in June 2011. Back in June Whatsapp announced that they have crossed 250 million active users,  LINE just says that they have achieved 300 million registered users. LINE was launched in India in July, and at that time the company claimed that they had 180 million users. LINE India says that they have reached 10 million users in the first 3 months after the launch, and plans to grab 20 million user share by the end of 2013. Moto X gets Android 4.4 KitKat via OTA update

Motorola has surprisingly updated the Moto X to Android 4.4 really quick and the OTA update just showed up on our AT&T unit which we have been happily using in India.The Android 4.4 KitKat update for the MotoX is about 326MB in size and bears the version number 140.44.5.en.US. The update was pretty straight forward and came in as a Over the Air update and installation took about 20 mins to complete. Motorola had already started rolling out the update for the Verizon version.

Dropbox has finally updated the app for iPhone and iPad that finally brings iOS 7 redesign, option to simply tap on files and photos to toggle full-screen mode. It also has AirDrop support and seamless saving of videos to the device library. It also has some bug fixes and better PDF viewing. Check out the complete changelog that lists all the new features in the latest update. Dropbox for Android got New notifications feed , option to send photos and videos to contacts in the v2.3.11 update earlier this week.

Sony support page confirms Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia SP, Update for Xperia T, TX, V and ZR under investigation

Earlier this month Sony announced the list of devices that would get the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Now the Sony Mobile support page shows that the Xperia SP would also get the Android 4.4 update. All the devices that would get the Android 4.4 update would get the Android 4.3 update starting from December 2013. Some devices would directly be upgraded to Android 4.3 from Android 4.1 starting from December, and the Android KitKat update for these devices are under investigation. Nokia Music is now MixRadio, offers personalized radio with PlayMe

Remember the Nokia Music app and service that launched along with the first Lumia devices? Well, that’s now rechristened as Nokia MixRadio as the service has evolved from an a-la-carte store to a streaming service, most notably with its Windows app. The Mix Radio experience is more in line with current demands of music discovery and free streaming, like Pandora and Spotify. Well, technically, it requires a music unlimited subscription that comes with most of the Lumia devices that are on sale today, but you get the personalized radio service now, which aims to be much better than the Mix Radio offering that was offered before.

Nokia has finally released WhatsApp for Asha 501 through a software update as the company promised at the Nokia World last month. WhatsApp launcher will appear on your home screen after the update that lets you download and install the full app. In addition to the WhatsApp support, the major software update also brings the new UI and features present on the recently announced Nokia Asha 500, 502 and the 503 and WhatsApp comes pre-loaded on all these devices out of the box.

Instagram BETA now available for Windows Phone 8 devices, no video support yet

Easily the most awaited app launch for Windows Phone is here. Yes, Instagram is now available for download on the Windows Phone 8 platform. It has been conveniently labeled a “BETA” as it most definitely lacks video support at launch, but if the developers at Instagram are to be believed, the new feature are coming in fast, so there’s no reason to worry. Just ahead of the holiday season, it’s good that Windows Phone finally has the most wanted app, even though in a public BETA, on it’s store.

Twitter has updated both the Android (v 5.0) and iPhone (v5.13) apps with new Search Filters that help you quickly find exactly the Tweets and people you’re looking for. Twitter released v5.0 Beta for Android back in September for a closed group that brought new UI, Navigation menu and more, looks like it has dropped the idea to bring the new UI to 5.0 update in the stable version. The stable v5.0 update doesn’t have the new UI or any Navigation menu. Both these apps were updated with in-line image and video previews few weeks back.
