Waze, the crowd sourced traffic navigation app, was recently bought by Google for its own mapping data. The Waze team however had launched their Beta testing well before the acquisition, so as a result, we now have a fully featured and bug-fixed Waze navigation app for Windows Phone. Waze works best by crowd sourcing real time traffic data to provide you the best navigation routes, which will save time as well as contribute your data to the community for better results for all. The app which can run in the background on Windows Phone will constantly collect traffic data when in the navigation mode, and will also report on speed traps and accident zones.

Here are the complete features of the app –

– Live routing based on community generated, real-time traffic and road info
– Community contributed road alerts including accidents, hazards, police traps, road closures and more
– Automatic re-routing as conditions on the road change
– Learns your frequent destinations, commuting hours and preferred routes
– Finds the cheapest gas station along your route
– Notify someone you’re on your way by sending a live ETA and a link showing you as you drive
– Earn points and move up the ranks in your community as you contribute road info
– Live maps, constantly edited and updated by Waze community map editors

As mentioned earlier, you have community powered live routing, real time traffic data and road info, and of course other miscellaneous alerts too. Waze is a really cool app, as I have personally seen from my beta testing on Windows Phone. The earlier beta versions used to heat the phone up quite a bit, but it’s not an issue now. There is a nice community twist to it, making it its own social network. The maps are also fun to look at and are edited by the Waze community too. You can even earn points by contributing to information for the maps, basically a twist to make you use the app. If you are a daily commuter, you might as well give it a try and see how it works out.
