Xolo Q1000 Opus, the latest smartphone in the QCORE series is now available for pre-order in India from online retailers Flipkart and Infibeam. It was announced last month and packs a 5-inch (854 ×480 pixels) FWVGA capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Broadcom (BCM23550) processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor, LED flash and 720p HD video recording and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby, similar to other Xolo smartphones.

Celkon has launched C76, the company’s first multilingual feature phone in the C Series. It comes with 7 regional languages including Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada. It has a 2.8-inch display, packs a 1.3-megapixel rear camera, comes with dual SIM support and even has wireless FM Radio. The company also plans to launch smartphones with similar regional language support.

HTC has launched the Desire 501 dual sim, a mid-range smartphone with dual SIM support in the Desire series along with the Desire 700 dual SIM and Desire 601 dual SIM today in India. The Single SIM variant was announced in Taiwan last month. It packs a 4.3-inch  (480 × 800 pixels) display, powered by a 1.15 GHz dual-core NovaThor U8520 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with Sense UI.  It has a 8-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED Flash and BSI sensor and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera with 88-degree ultra-wide-angle lens. Android Source Code reveals push towards a consistent Action Menu

Google has always been in favor of on-screen buttons and it is pretty evident in all their Nexus devices. Sometime back, Google introduced the action menu(the vertical dots) as a method of opening the settings for an app or screen depending on the context. Despite Google’s attempts to unify the Android experience(atleast in terms of these vertical dots), manufacturers(especially Samsung) have continued to use hardware buttons for home and other navigation options.

HTC has launched Desire 700 dual sim, the company’s latest smartphone in the Desire series in India. It was announced last month in Taiwan and packs a  5-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels)  display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor and runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It has a 8-megapixel camera on the back with LED flash, BSI sensor, 28mm lens, F 2.0 aperture, HTC Zoe and 1080p video recording and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera with BSI sensor. It has HTC BlinkFeed home screen and HTC BoomSound with Dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers. It also comes with dual SIM dual active capability. Android 4.4.2 rolling out less than a week after Android 4.4.1

Google announced their Android 4.4 KitKat version on November 1 and unveiled the next Nexus smartphone – Google Nexus 5. The camera of Google Nexus 5 did not prove to be the camera it was meant to be and Google put the blame on the software. The search engine giant promised that the problem would soon be fixed and less than 50 days after the announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat, Google started seeding a minor update in the form of Android 4.4.1.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 based on 64-bit Cortex A53 CPU with integrated LTE announced

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 410, their latest chip with integrated LTE support aimed at emerging markets. The chip is based on Cortex A53 in the Cortex A50 series, based on ARMv8 architecture and 64-bit processing technology. The 410 series is built on 28nm process technology and have Adreno 306 GPU for 1080p video playback. Nokia has finally unveiled the BH-121 Bluetooth Stereo Headset with NFC support. The Bluetooth headset was leaked as Nokia Guru, back in October and was expected launch at the Dubai event along with the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia 2520. The Bluetooth Stereo headset comes with in-ear headphones (WH-208) that connects to the headset through a 3.5mm jack and weighs just 15.7 grams. Great Online Shopping Festival, aka GOSF, by Google was an initiative by the Mountain View company to bring a “Cyber Monday” like deals bonanza to India last year, and it is back again this year, with more partners and of course, more deals. Unlike Black Friday, Cyber Monday and GOSF are online-only, and Google aims to attract the eager buyers of the legion of Indian internet shoppers, with deals on a single platform. That single platform is the website – GOSF.in, which lists all the partners and even has a countdown for the first day of the shopping festival, which begins on December 11th and ends on the 13th. 3 days, over 200 partners including all major e-tailers, and hopefully insane deals. Will this year be defining for the Indian e-commerce industry?

Xiaomi plans to expand beyond China – Singapore first, hopefully India next?

Xiaomi, the company that was recently in the news for insane flash sales and earlier, for the hire of Android VP Hugo Barra, has laid out plans to expand beyond China. Singapore is one of the first markets in which Xiaomi is targeting for its full fledged operations, as a part of its expansion to South East Asia. Hugo Barra was appointed as the company’s VP of global operations and it seems like his work is now in full swing. Xiaomi’s top executives were recently in Taiwan for a fan gathering, addressing their huge fan base with quizzes, oversized T-Shirts and even a performance from Hugo Barra, who sang and danced to a popular Taiwanese song!
