Introduction
Huawei Ascend G700 is one among the sea of mid-range Android smartphones that you can buy for around Rs. 15,000. There are more similarities between the other mid-range droids and Ascend G700 than the differences between them. Huawei Ascend G700 doesn’t fight for the crown in the mid-range battle and doesn’t settle to be a pawn. It fights a mid-range battle that it is involved in.
LG had announced its third iteration of the budget friendly L series just prior to the MWC 2014. At the MWC 2014, LG had showcased these products and among the recently announced devices was the LG L65. LG L65 is a typical midrange offering keeping in mind the budget buyers. It comes with a layer of LG UI features over midrange specifications.
Just before the MWC 2014, LG had announced three smartphones in the LG L series – LG L40, LG L70 and LG L90. As you can see, the LG L70 is the mid-range offering among the three, in terms of features, size and pricing. At MWC 2014, LG showcased its recently announced devices and we managed to spend sometime with the LG L70 smartphone.
Wickedleak has launched Wammy Passion X, the company’s first water resistant smartphone. It uses AquaProtect waterproof technology, that protects the smartphone from inside-out from any water or water-based liquid damage. It has a 5-inch full HD display based on OGS technology, powered by a 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean).It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. S Mobility has launched Spice Smart Flo Poise Mi-451, the company’s latest entry-level smartphone in the Smart Flo series. It has a 4.5-inch (854 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen IPS display, powered by a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 3.2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has dual SIM support and 2G (EDGE) connectivity. Just ahead of the MWC 2014, Acer announced a couple of smartphones that it would showcase at the MWC 2014 show floor. Among the Android smartphones that it announced,the Acer Liquid Z4 is an interesting budget smartphone with entry range specifications. As a typical entry range device, it is powered by a MediaTek processor.

Just ahead of the MWC 2014, Acer announced a couple of Android smartphones and it is showcasing them at the MWC 2014 show floor. Among the smartphones that it announced, the Acer Liquid E3 is one and it fits quite well in the range of mid-range Android smartphones quite well. It is powered by the very familiar MediaTek processor and comes with the same hardware specs that most mid-range phones have along with a few tricks up its sleeve.

At MWC 2014, both Microsoft and Nokia were present. Microsoft gave a few updates regarding their progress on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 while Nokia announced a series of Android running budget smartphones. At the Pepcom event, Microsoft and Nokia had a booth where they had showcased the Nokia Lumia Icon which is a 5inch version of the company’s latest flagship – Nokia Lumia 1520.
ZTE, a leading Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has a booth at the MWC 2014 event in Barcelona and they are showcasing their latest smartphones. ZTE had launched a mini version of their flagship – ZTE Nubia 5S sometime in December and now, they are here at MWC 2014 to showcase the products to global consumers.

ZTE is one of those Chinese manufacturers which competes at the highest level. ZTE is present at the MWC 2014 event in Barcelona and they are showcasing their smartphones and they have on display, their current flagship – ZTE Nubia 5S. The ZTE Nubia 5S has top of the shelf specifications and is fully equipped to compete with the big boys like Samsung, Sony and LG in terms of specs.
In a courageous and cunning move, Nokia launched its new series of Android devices under the X moniker, a ploy to capture the entry level Smartphone segment, which they had initially planned to capture with the Asha platform. Three devices at different price points were launched, with the XL being launched at a higher 109 EUR price point. Sporting hardware design from the Asha phones and software design from Lumia, Nokia wants to create familiarity to Windows Phone in the low end and hopes to catch aspiring buyers and make them move to their hopefully more profitable platform. But the pricing is treacherously close to their low end Lumias, which might just end up cannibalizing the sales of the latter, even when providing a choice with similar hardware. The XL, a 5 inch Android phone with almost the same or better specifications than the Lumia 520, poses a threat, or may be is it opportunity for Nokia and Microsoft?

Samsung unveiled the most expected Galaxy S5 smartphone at the MWC 2014 few hours back. The Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) processor clocked at 2.45 GHz. A new infographic, comparing all the Galaxy S series devices on the Samsung blog reveals that the Galaxy S5 would also come in a Octa-Core variant clocked at 2.1GHz. Samsung has just announced the most expected Galaxy S5 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It has a 5.1-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display, powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Samsung own UI on top. It has a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, 4K video recording, HDR (Rich tone), Selective Focus, Virtual Tour Shot and more new features and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Samsung claims that the phone has world’s fastest auto focus speed up to 0.3 seconds. It has IP67 ratings for Dust and water Resistance.

HP is present at the Mobile World Congress 2014 event in Barcelona and has just announced a couple of Windows 8.1 tablets – HP ElitePad 1000 and HP ProPad 600. Both the tablets – HP ElitePad 1000 and HP ProPad 600 come with a 10.1inch WUXGA display.
