Samsung profits down 28.7% YoY in Q4 2018 on weak chip and phone sales

Samsung has reported its earnings for Q4 2018, in which the company has made operating profit of 10.80 trillion won ($9.7 billion), down 28.7% YoY, as expected, for the October to December 2018 period. This due to drop in demand for memory chips used in data centers and smartphones. “The System LSI and Foundry businesses also saw profits decline due to weak seasonality,” added Samsung. It reported revenue of 59.27 trillion won, down 10% YoY from 65.98 trillion won last year. Samsung starts mass production of first 1TB eUFS flash memory ahead of Galaxy S10 launch

Samsung  has announced that it has begun mass production of first 1TB flash storage for next-generation mobile devices and it utilizes  16 stacked layers of 512-gigabit (Gb) V-NAND chips. It uses the same 11.5mm x 13.0mm package as the previous 512GB version, but this uses a newly developed proprietary controller. This will allow users to store 260 10-minute videos in 4K UHD (3840×2160) format, compared to 13 videos of the same size in 64GB eUFS. Samsung Galaxy M20 Unboxing and First Impressions

The new M series from Samsung is all about addressing the needs of the Indian market. Our demographic is such that Samsung has decided to launch this series here first, starting with the M10 and the M20. We’d seen the first impressions of the Galaxy M10, now it’s the Galaxy M20’s turn. This device, at a great starting price of Rs. 10,990 (3/32) and Rs. 12,990 (4/64), aims to compete in the most hotly contested smartphone segment in our country. I was lucky enough to test the device just before launch and here are my first impressions.

Samsung Galaxy M10 Unboxing and First Impressions

Samsung has been teasing the new M series on social media for a while now. It is a global series of devices that is launching first in India, and is specifically “Made for India”. Well the soft launch has happened today and we have two new devices in the market, the Galaxy M10 and the Galaxy M20. These devices are entirely focused on the mid range segment, which is the most hotly contested in India, no doubt. Aimed at “Millennials”, which I think is a code-word for high-demand expectations when it comes to value for money, how well do these devices cater? I’ve been lucky enough to try them before launch. At Rs. 7,990 (2/16) and Rs. 8,990 (3/32), the Galaxy M10 is the cheaper of the two, here are my first impressions.

Samsung Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 with infinity-V display, dual rear cameras launched in India starting at Rs. 7990

Samsung just launched Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 smartphones, the company’s latest smartphones in the new ‘M Series’ in India, as it had promised. The Galaxy M20 comes with a 6.3-inch FHD+ infinity-V display and is powered by the latest Exynos 7904 octa-core 14nm processor, while Galaxy M10 has a 6.2-inch HD+ infinity-V display and is powered by Exynos 7870 14nm octa-core processor. Both come with Widevine L1 certification for seamless streaming of HD content through popular apps. These run Android 8.1 (Oreo) with  Samsung Experience version 9.5 UX.

Samsung Electronics has announced that the company would soon start taking steps to replace plastic packaging materials with paper and other environmentally sustainable elements. From the first half of 2019, the packaging used currently for Samsung’s products and accessories – ranging from mobile phones and tablets to home appliances – will be substituted with environmentally sustainable materials like recycled/bio-based plastics and paper. Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro (2019) with 6.4-inch FHD+ Infinity-O display, 6GB RAM, triple rear cameras announced

Samsung has announced new Galaxy A9 Pro  (SM-G887N) in Korea, which a version of the Galaxy A8s (SM-G8870) that was introduced in China last month. As we already know, the phone packs a 6.4-inch Full HD+ Infinity-O display, is powered by Snapdragon 710 with 6GB of RAM, comes with triple rear cameras that includes main 24-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 10-megapixel Telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture for 2x optical zoom, and a 5-megapixel camera to capture depth information for portrait shots and a 24-megapixel front camera.

As we inch closer to the launch for the Galaxy S10, more details started flowing in. Just a while ago, we have seen the device surface in the live images showing off the punch-hole selfie-camera and the Secure Cryptowallet and now we are getting to see more live images of the S10 and S10 Plus together. As we know from the previous leaks, the S10 Plus packs a dual-front cameras, hence the Infinity O display is wider than the regular Galaxy S10. Apple hires Samsung’s battery executive Soonho Ahn to lead its work

Apple has hired Soonho Ahn executive from Samsung SDI Co., which is the battery making affiliate of Samsung Electronics Co. This move will help Apple lead its own battery department. Soonho Ahn joined Apple in December as global head of battery developments, after working as a senior vice president at Samsung SDI since 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile.
