Many thought Samsung was out of the Windows Phone business as there were no devices, but things are about to change. Google announced their 35$ dongle – Chromecast at the Google I/O 2013 event last year. At launch, Chromecast was restricted to US and eventually started rolling out to other countries. It is officially available in India and is priced around Rs. 3,300 from Amazon. What this Chromecast does is that it lets you stream content from your iOS or Android device or PC to your TV via WiFi.

Gionee M2, the latest mid-range smartphone from the company is now available in India from online retailer Snapdeal. It has a 5-inch (854 x 480 pixels) display, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby and packs 4200 mAh battery. Last week LG confirmed that it would launch the LG G Pro 2, successor of the LG G Pro later this month. The company did not reveal the specifications or image of the device at that time. Last week images of the G Pro 2 appeared online showing G2-like rear-mounted power button and volume keys. Today LG has confirmed that it would have a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer or optical image stabilization) capabilities. Samsung is expected to announce the next iteration of Galaxy S series sometime soon and there were early rumors that Samsung will be holding an event on Feb 23rd, but it turns out that they are holding the unpacked event on Feb 24th, just on the starting day of MWC 2014. The event invite tells us that this is Samsung’s Unpacked event 5 and it also mentions it as episode 1. The event will take place in Barcelona.

LG showcased the LG G Flex, the company’s first smartphone with a curved OLED display in India at an event back in December last year and promised that it would launch in February. Now the smartphone has been listed on the official LG India website at Rs. 69,999 (MRP). The LG G Flex was announced back in October 2013 and packs a 6-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD Curved Plastic OLED display that vertically concave from top to bottom to a radius of 700mm. Windows 8.1 Update 1, a small evolutionary update to the controversial operating system from Microsoft, has leaked ahead of its official March release. The update 1 is squarely aimed at desktop users, with enhancements made to lessen the gestural actions that don’t make sense for people using Windows 8 with a keyboard/mouse combination. New mouse-focused context menus, search and power/shutdown buttons on the lock screen and the ability to add metro apps to the taskbar are some of the notable changes in Update 1. This sets the stage for the next version of Windows codenamed “Threshold” which will be detailed at the Build developer event in April and released to OEMs sometime next year.

Nokia Lumia 1320 was announced as one of the two phablets that Nokia unveiled at their Abu Dhabi event in 2013. Nokia Lumia 1320 comes with mid-range specifications and has a 6inch display sporting a HD resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Apart from the mid-range specifications, it comes with a 5MP camera and LED flash. There is a front facing VGA camera for video calls. The Nokia Lumia 1320 can record 1080p videos at 30fps.
Last year iBall launched Andi Udaan, India’s first Android smartphone with safety features for women. We already know that it has a dedicated SOS button on the back to alert people in case of emergency. Flipkart has just sent us a press invite for the launch, slated on February 5th, the same date that Motorola said it would reveal more details about the Moto G launch in India. The HTC One successor, codenamed M8, is all set to be released to the market in a couple of months, as the Taiwanese company plans to repeat its predecessor’s success. One interesting rumour that had persisted all this while was that HTC was finally going for on screen buttons instead of the weird capacitive ones on the HTC One and other devices. According to a leak from one Seina Weibo user, the HTC M8’s one screen buttons, the one you see in the image above, might just have been revealed. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was one of the first devices to incorporate on-screen buttons after the introduction of Android 4.0 for phones and tablets and then the trend caught up with other OEMs like Sony, but HTC curiously avoided it, which might change with the M8.
Huawei has unveiled the Ascend Y530, the latest smartphone in the Y Series in Europe. It has a 4.5-inch (854 x 480 pixels) FWVGA display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 (MSM8210) processor with Adreno 203 GPU and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS with Huawei Emotion UI on top. At the Abu Dhabi event in 2013, Nokia announced two phablets – Nokia Lumia 1520 and Nokia Lumia 1320. Among the two phablets, Nokia Lumia 1520 was the high end phablet with top of the shelf specifications and features. Nokia Lumia 1320, on the other hand, was supposed to be the mid-range phablet. Nokia launched the Lumia 1520 sometime in Dec 2013, but the Lumia 1320 is making its way to the market only now.
Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini A200, a mid-range smartphone went on sale recently. Now three new Micromax smartphones in the Bolt series, the Micromax Bolt A24, Bolt A37B and Bolt A46 are available online. The Bolt A24 has a 2.8-inch QVGAscreen, powered by a 1 GHz Spreadrtum SC6820 processor and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
