HTC has reported their unaudited consolidated revenue of NT$ 7.2 billion (US$238 million) for February 2014 , down by 36.45% YoY, compared to NT$ 11.3 billion in February 2013. Total unaudited consolidated revenue for January and February 2014 is NT$ 16.9 billion. Last month the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer reported revenues of NT$ 42.9 billion for Q4 2013, a 28% drop YoY in terms of revenue. The GSM Association has announced the winners for the 19th annual Global Mobile Awards at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Last year the Galaxy S3 bagged the award, this year HTC One was awarded the best smartphone of the year, even though it had tough contenders such as Samsung Galaxy Note 3, iPhone 5S, Nokia Lumia 1020 and the LG G2. Nokia bagged two awards, the Lumia 520 bagged the award for the best low-cost smartphone of the year, competing with phones like Sony Xperia E and Samsung Galaxy Young. HTC is having a presence at the MWC 2014 despite not launching its flagship smartphone here. At the event, HTC launched a couple of mid-range Android smartphones – HTC Desire 816 and HTC Desire 610. Among the two, the HTC Desire 610 is the more humbly speced device with a moderate spec sheet.
Amongst the two device that HTC announced today, the 816 clearly stole the show. However, the 610 is no slouch either. The HTC Desire 610 is the lower end of the two devices announced and is aimed at the volume segment. HTC is holding an event at the MWC 2014 where it will not be announcing its next flagship, but it hasn’t come empty handed. HTC has just announced a couple of Android smartphones. One among the two is the HTC Desire 816. HTC Desire 816 is the International variant of the HTC Desire 8 which HTC had announced a few weeks back in China. We are live from the event and we managed to get a few photos of the HTC Desire 816.
HTC has unveiled the Desire 610, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone along with the Desire 816 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It has a 4.7-inch (960 x 540 pixels) display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and runs on Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 6.0 on top. It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

HTC’s announcements at the Mobile World Congress revolved around their Desire series of handsets. The two devices announced ie the Desire 816 and 610 vary wildly in their target audience but do emphasize the focus on quality that HTC has maintained despite aiming to reach ever lower price points. The upper end device of the two ie the Desire 816 is the most powerful phone in the Desire series of phones and opts for a design that closely mimics the flagship ie the HTC One. HTC”s sales are slumping and profits dropping and things are not looking good for the once very successful Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer. Amid this declining trend, HTC is rumored to be trying its hand at the yet to prosper wearable technology market and is reportedly in talks with carriers to show them a smartwatch that it has been developing.

HTC may not be announcing its flagship at MWC 2014, but it isn’t coming empty handed. HTC Desire 8 is a mid-range device headed for the Chinese market and the rumored HTC A5 may be the international variant of the HTC Desire 8. HTC Desire 8 is expected to be unveiled on February 24th in China and we are expecting to see the HTC A5 at the upcoming MWC 2014.

We all know that HTC is going to announce its next flagship, the HTC One successor at an event on March 25(almost a month after the MWC 2014) and by now, almost the core specifications of the device have leaked. HTC has announced two separate events on March 25th, 2014 in the U.S. and UK. The invites doesn’t reveal anything, but the company is likely to unveil the most expected HTC One successor. Most of the specifications of the smartphone had been leaked already. We had also seen some press shots and live images of the upcoming flagship HTC smartphone that reveals dual cameras on the back and on-screen buttons, replacing the hardware touch buttons. HTC One family is a series of three similar looking smartphones that come at different sizes, different specifications and definitely different price points. HTC One, the company’s current flagship, was launched more than a year ago and is still the company’s flagship. In the interim, HTC has managed to push two HTC One lookalike devices in the form of HTC One Mini and HTC One Max.

HTC Desire 8, the company’s upcoming mid-range desire smartphone leaked last week along with specifications. As you can see from the official image with the invite, HTC has confirmed on Weibo that it would be officially unveiled on February 24th in China. Earlier leak revealed that the phone would come with a 5.5-inch display and a 13-megapixel rear camera.
