32GB Nexus 7 shows up at retail, on sale starting 29th October for $249

Google has scheduled an Android focussed event for the 29th of October and details around it have already started trickling out. Alongside the expected Nexus 4, it is now almost certain that Google will introduce a 32GB variant of the Nexus 7.

Google to hold an Android event on October 29th

Google has started sending invites for an Android event on October 29th. Looks like the earlier rumors about the event were correct. Google’s  event coincides with the Microsoft’s Windows Phone event in San Francisco. There is nothing in the invite  other than the tag line The playground is open, but according to the earlier rumors, we can expect Nexus devices from LG and Sony. Google Calendar app for Android released on the Google Play Store

Google has finally released the Google Calender app on the Google Play Store for the devices running on 4.0.3 or later. This app was previously available only on the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus devices. This would let you sync the Google calendar to the Android devices, create, edit and delete events and also respond to invitations. Gmail for Android v4.2 to bring pinch-to-zoom and Swipe to delete features

Android Police has got hold of the upcoming Gmail for Android app version 4.2. Looks like this would be a major update from the existing version of the Gmail for Android version 4.1.2. The upcoming Gmail for Android update is expected to bring the most expected pinch-to-zoom feature and a new swipe to archive or delete feature to quickly delete or archive a mail from you inbox or sent. You can also disable this feature from the settings, or make it to only delete when you swipe or archive and delete. It also removes the labels when you’re in a label-only view. Google has been changing the design of their services from quite some time now, experimenting with different layouts and interface design. Now Google has changed its mobile homepage to look somewhat like Google+. They are looking to have a unified design for all their services is what I think.

Google Nexus 7 Android 4.1.2 OTA update starts rolling out, brings landscape mode and improvements

Google has started rolling out Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) update for the Nexus 7. The Google Nexus 7 was unveiled in June came with Android 4.1.1 but it lacked landscape mode. The new Android 4.1.2 Over the Air (OTA) update is a minor update which is about 31MB. It brings landscape mode and  improvements in performance, stability and bug fixes. The LG E960 that is rumored to be the next Nexus device was spotted running on the Android 4.1.2. LG Nexus smartphone detailed specs surface, to be announced late October?

 

There were several rumors about the Google’s next Nexus Smartphone for the past few days. Earlier rumors from Android and Me suggested that the next Google Nexus smartphone would be LG Optimus based, but it would look similar to the Galaxy Nexus. Now detailed specs of the upcoming Nexus device has been leaked by MoDaCo. According to them, the LG’s Nexus has not been named yet, but some of the specs would be similar to the Optimus G, LG’s latest flagship smartphone that was launched  in Korea for 999,900 Korean Won (~US$900) last month. It would not come with a expandable memory slot, instead it would come in 8GB and 16GB variants, similar to the Nexus 7 and would feature an 8MP rear camera instead of 13MP camera. Google Maps web app for iOS to get Street View support

Walt Mossberg reported on the Wall Street Journal that Google will soon rolling out Street View to users of the iOS Google Maps web app. With iOS 6, Apple replaced the integrated Google Maps based solution with their homegrown offering which pales in comparison.

Google has not submitted a new Google Maps App to Apple


Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt has confirmed that Google has not offered a new Google Maps app to Apple, according to a report from the Reuters. The new iOS 6 update that started rolling out for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch last week uses Apple’s own maps instead of Google Maps from the pervious versions of iOS. Android Developers in India can now sell Paid Apps on Google Play

Google has finally added India to the list of countries where developers can sell paid applications through Google Play Store. This would let the individual App developers and the developments companies in India to sell their paid apps and in-app products on Google Play. Google Play already shows amount for paid apps in INR. Google Nexus 7 launching in India in November


Asus India today confirmed at the PadFone and Transformer Pad launch event that the Google Nexus 7 is expected to launch in India in November according from reports for CIOL. It might come with a different name and few changes in the specification says Ausus, the hardware partner. Google announced the Nexus 7, their first Android tablet to come with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) in June at Google I/O for $199.
