Google rolls out August Android security update for Nexus devices

Google has started rolling out new over-the-air (OTA) update for Nexus devices and also posted factory images as part of monthly Android Security release. The latest update this month fixes several critical issues, including issues in Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability in framework APIs, Mediaserver, S hell and Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in Mediaserver and more. In addition to security fixes for August 1st, this also includes another update dated August 5th that cover hardware vulnerabilities on Nexus devices. Google Play’s new Delta algorithm will reduce Android app update size

Google has announced that it has rolled a new delta algorithm, bsdiff, to reduce Android app update size up to 50% or more compared to the previous algorithm. “Bsdiff is specifically targeted to produce more efficient deltas of native libraries by taking advantage of the specific ways in which compiled native code changes between versions,” said Google in their developers blog.
