Another Apple I Headed to Auction with $125,000 Estimate

Earlier this year, MacRumors reported that one of only about 50 Apple 1 were still in existence. That unit sold at an auction for approximately $375,000. The Daily Mail now reports that another Apple 1 is being put up for auction in early October. However, this time the unit is non-functional and has been estimated to fetch lower but still substantial £80,000, or roughly $125,000.

The Apple I is good aesthetic condition and the motherboard represents the first piece of hardware built by Apple in 1976. This computer was created by co-founder Steve Wozniak with help from Steve Jobs and is one of the world’s first and most significant personal computers. In addition to the functional Apple I that was sold earlier this year, Apple’s founding documents also sold at an auction for nearly $1.6 million last year. When the Apple I was first introduced in 1976, it was priced at $666.66, with only about 200 of the units having been produced.

TSMC turns down offers from Apple and Qualcomm to secure chip orders

Every iOS device on the market has a chip inside that was manufactured by Samsung. Apple, looking to distance themselves from Samsung because they’re one of their fiercest competitors, has long been rumored to switch to TSMC. TSMC is a Taiwanese company that makes chips. One of their most well known clients is Qualcomm. Qualcomm can’t feed demand for their new Snapdragon S4 part fast enough. According to a report from Bloomberg, both Apple and Qualcomm have offered TSMC at least $1 billion so that they can get secure some, but not all, of TSMC’s output. TSMC turned down both of them for reasons we don’t quite understand. TSMC needs the money to increase their output, otherwise the smartphone market is going to experience a chip shortage. Did TSMC request more money than either Apple or Qualcomm were willing to offer? The world may never know. What is known however is that TSMC says they would rather remain flexible when it comes to picking their customers. Samsung to pay $1.05 billion in damages to Apple for infringing patents

Samsung accused

The jury presiding over the Apple vs Samsung trial in a US court has just reached a verdict. We were thinking this trial would last several weeks or even months and to everyone’s surprise the jury announced the verdict just minutes ago. Pretty bad news from Samsung has it has been found to infringe several patents owned by Apple.  Samsung must pay Apple $1 billion, 51 million 855 thousand dollars $1051855000 . That is about Rs.5828.33 crores or five thousand odd crores of rupees in damages to just give you an idea about the magnitude of the verdict. Leaked iPad mini part shows up as we get closer to a possible fall launch

When the iPad was announced in January 2010 it forced the consumer electronics industry to scramble to create a competitive product. The first iPad “killers”, take the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the HTC Flyer for example, were basically Android smartphones with a larger screen. It wasn’t until early 2011, when Google launched Android 3.0 Honeycomb, that the search giant actually had a tablet operating system to offer their partners. Sadly, Honeycomb was garbage, and by then the thinner and lighter iPad 2 had already hit the market. Then something happened. A light bulb turned on. Companies began to realize that there’s no point in competing in the 10 inch tablet space with Apple, so why not invent a new 7 inch tablet market? And with that the Amazon Kindle Fire, the Barnes & Noble Nook, and several other tablets were born. The most recent of such tablets, the ASUS manufactured Google Nexus 7, has been widely praised as being the first actual iPad competitor worthy of your money. At $250 for the 16 GB version it’s also a steal.

So the obvious question is will Apple make a 7 inch tablet? Rumors about a smaller iPad have been circulating for about a year already, but now we’re starting to see more and more evidence that it’s actually coming. The image above, which comes from the French website NowhereElse, shows what’s allegedly the iPad mini’s flex cable. Supposedly Apple is going to announce a smaller iPad at their next event, which is unofficially due to take place on September 12th.

The key question here is price. Apple offers the third generation iPad for $499, and the second generation iPad for $399, so does that mean a smaller iPad would go for $299? That’s only $50 more than the 16 GB Nexus 7, and for that amount of cash you’ll get access to all the applications in Apple’s ecosystem, plus what we can only assume to be better build quality.

Hopefully we’ll be able to tell you more in about four weeks.
