Apple has released iOS 7.1 update for iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. This update brings several new features such as CarPlay support, that lets you connect your phone to supported cars, new improvements to Siri, new features in iTunes Radio, Calendar, Accessibility, option to automatically enable HDR for iPhone 5s and more. It also has new user interface enhancements, that brings more rounded icons, more polished control center and notification center. It also brings performance improvements to iPhone 4.

Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer to retire in September

Apple has announced that Peter Oppenheimer, the company’s senior vice president and CFO, will retire at the end of September 2014. He joined Apple in 1996 as controller for the Americas, and was promoted to vice president and Worldwide Sales controller and then to corporate controller later. Apple launches two-week trial offer for iPhone in India

Apple has introduced a new trial offer in India, that lets users to try any iPhone for up up two weeks, before returning to back. This move is to boost the sales of the iPhones in India. Last year the company introduced 10% Cash back on iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on the launch day for Citibank customers. It runs several EMI and Cash Back schemes for iPhone and iPad Mini in India. Apple CarPlay announced, integrates iPhone with your car for calls, maps and music

Apple has announced CarPlay, the company’s new in-car entertainment feature. When integrated with iPhone, it lets users to take phone calls, use maps, listen to music and access messages using voice or touch controls. The CarPlay would be demoed by Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo at the Geneva Motor Show later this week. Apple demoed the iOS in the Car feature on iOS last June. Apple reportedly asked Indian govt to relax FDI policy to open Apple Stores

Apple is keen on opening up their Apple Stores in India. The Cupertino-based company had asked the Indian government to relax the policy on foreign direct investment (FDI) in single-brand retail, according to a recent report from Business Standard. Latest Indian Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy permits 100% stake for foreign businesses, up from the previous limit of 74%, to boost the Indian economy. But current FDI on single-brand retail requires the company to source 30% of its materials locally, for proposals involving foreign investments in excess of 51%.

Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display Review

Introduction

Apple had introduced the original iPad Mini without the RETINA display and that pretty much confirmed that the second generation of Apple iPad Mini would come with the RETINA display. As expected, Apple crammed a high resolution display(same resolution as the iPad Air) into the second generation iPad Mini which Apple calls – iPad Mini with Retina Display. In addition to sporting a high resolution display, the iPad Mini competes with Apple’s iPad Air in terms of specifications. Apple is using the same processing power inside each of its flagship iOS device – iPhone 5s, iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display.

Fleksy iOS keyboard alternative now out of beta

Back in December 2013, Fleksy Keyboard, one of the popular third party keyboards in the Android market announced an SDK for iOS apps which allows the apps to use Fleksy Keyboard inside the application. Apple imposes strict rules on third party content inside its core features and that is on of the reasons Fleksy has to be used by the developer in his application(and not by the user like in Android).

If you thought it was the end of “Flappy Bird”, then you were right and wrong. After having had enough with his immensely addictive and frustrating game, developer Dong Nyugen pulled the game from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. But because of the immense popularity that the game gained, developers and clone makes just can’t seem to get enough of the “Flappy Bird” sensation.

Apple and Samsung reportedly fail to reach an agreement in mediation talks

In unsurprising news of this week, a lot of Korean websites and news papers are reporting that top level executives from Samsung and Apple have failed to reach an agreement in their mediation talks. Apple and Samsung have been battling it out in the courts for a long while now, and that’s not a secret. Apple had accused Samsung of various IP infringements including the hotly debated “Trade Dress”, but the Judge had decided to give both the companies the option to resolve their tussle through mediation talks. If the reports are true, those talks just failed and both the companies with be back to the courts, with Samsung defending Apple’s claims again.

Alleged photos of the Apple iPhone 6 leak, features a big screen with no bezels

The iPhone 6 has been rumoured to have a big screen, through multiple reports, but we may be seeing the confirmation of it right now, if the allegedly leaked photos of the Apple iPhone 6 are true. Now, we are always advised to take the Apple leaks with a pinch of salt, as excitement around the iPhones usually drive people to actually make real life concepts, but from what we have seen with leaks after the iPhone 4S, most of them have somewhat turned true and this leak might turn out the same way(Update: High chances it might be fake). The picture you see above portrays the iPhone 6 with a design similar to the iPad mini and the iPad Air, zero bezels on the sides and of course, looks to sport a bigger screen. Earlier rumours had pointed at two models, one with a 4.7 inch screen and the other with a 5.7 inch one, are we seeing the smaller variant here?

TSMC switching to 8 inch processing for TouchID sensors

TSMC or the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is responsible for manufacturing Touch ID sensors for the Apple iPhone. Apple had previously contracted TSMC to produce fingerprint sensors at their 12 inch processing facility using a 65nm process. Due to risks associated with the 12 inch Wafer Level Packaging (WLP) process, the production yield has so far been limited to between 70-80%. GT Advanced, manufacturer of sapphire crystal components for Apple is ramping up production. According to SEC Filings, the company entered a partnership with Apple last year which came with an exclusivity clause for “Consumer Electronics Products”. The company currently manufactures sapphire crystal components like Apple Touch ID fingerprint readers and caps for camera sensors.
