32GB Nexus 7 shows up at retail, on sale starting 29th October for $249

Google has scheduled an Android focussed event for the 29th of October and details around it have already started trickling out. Alongside the expected Nexus 4, it is now almost certain that Google will introduce a 32GB variant of the Nexus 7.

iPad mini expected to be released on Nov. 2

On October 23rd, Apple is expected to release the 7.85 inch iPad mini. Today, TechCrunch reports that the so-called iPad mini will be made available in stores and early online buyers on November 2nd. That would be just over a week after the product is expected to be announced.

Such a launch schedule is similar to other recent products, including the iPhone 5 and the third-generation iPad introduced this year.

German site iFun.de also claims that Apple has informed a major shipping logistics partner that it should be preparing for a significant boost leading up to that date.

Sony confirms Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for range of Xperia devices, No Jelly Bean for 2011 Xperia devices


Sony Mobile has confirmed the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for range of Xperia devices. Sony has also said that they have started shipping Xperia T and Xperia TX for the global markets, and the Xperia V would ship soon. These three phones would be the first to get the update in mid-Q1 2013. Sony started rolling out ICS update for the Xperia U, Xperia Sola and Xperia Go recently. Earlier this August Sony said that the 2011 Xperia devices might get the Jelly Bean update, but now they have confirmed that those devices that got the Android 4.0.4 update would not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich. Byond Mi-book Mi1 7-inch Tablet running Android 4.0 launched for Rs. 4300

Byond Tech has launched Mi-book Mi1 their new Android tablet. This has a 7-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive multi-touch display and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It is powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor and has a VGA front-facing camera for video calling. It has 3D video and gaming support and comes with free 3D goggles in the box. Qualcomm Snapdragon demos at IQ India 2012


At the Innovation Qualcomm India 2012 Qualcomm demoed Snapdragon S4-powered devices such as Smartphones and Tablets. These features range from Audio, Camera, WiFi displays and more. They also demoed AllJoyn technology that enables ad hoc, proximity-based device-to-device communication for local Multi-player gaming and apps.

Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Benchmarking

At Qualcomm’s IQ India event here in New Delhi, we got a chance to get our hands on some of the latest development hardware that Qualcomm has. The latest quadcore mobile processor ie the Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ 8064) was shown off in the form of its tablet reference design. The chip uses 4 krait cores alongside the Adreno 320 GPU.

As part of the benchmarking workshop, we ran a range of tests on it to judge performance and the figures were some of the best we’ve seen so far. A quick test on the Quadrant benchmark resulted in a score of  7641 points which is the best we have seen for a device till now.

Zen Mobiles launches UltraTab A900 with 9-inch display, Android 4.0 for Rs. 7999

Zen Mobiles has launched the UltraTab A900, successor of the UltraTab A100 that was launched in July. The UltraTab A900 has a 9-inch capacitive multi-touch display. It runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) similar to the UltraTab A100. It is sleek and has marble finish. It has 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera for video calling and has support for Adobe Flash. It has Live Panel menu that lets users to customize the home screen content with images, bookmarks, social feeds and a application tray in the home screen with shortcuts to launch task manager, calendar, music player and more. Nokia reports Q3 2012 financials, 2.9 million Lumias sold, $9.4 billion in sales

Nokia just published its quarterly financial report and predictably, the results aren’t good at all. The Finnish smartphone manufacturer reported losses of $754 million. The silver lining to this is that the company has definitely managed to slow down its losses which were reported at $1.01 billion in the previous quarter. The sales of Lumia devices dropped down to 2.9 billion compared to 4 million in the last quarter.
