GSMA unveils the Mobile World Centre in Barcelona

GSMA awarded the prestigious “Mobile World Capital” title to the city of Barcelona in July 2011 and then started the idea of a Mobile World Centre which, according to the GSMA “offers a year-round, state-of-the-art exhibition showroom where citizens can learn about and experience first-hand how mobile is enhancing people’s lives.” Barcelona being the city that hosts the Mobile World Congress with much fanfare, kind of deserves the Mobile World Centre too, making the go to place for the Mobile World Centre.

Xolo A1000 Photo Gallery

Xolo launched the A1000, the company’s first device in the Xolo series to feature a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display earlier today. We brought you exclusive images of the device earlier this week. Opera acquires competing mobile browser, Skyfire for $150 million

Opera is well known for its mobile browsers that promise to compress data using the cloud. The company has acquired its chief competitor, Skyfire, for $150 million in a bid to gain access to key technologies around mobile video compression. California based Skyfire is well known for its Rocket Optimizer Software that helps optimize video and other multimedia content for delivery over congested cell towers.

Xolo A1000 Android Smartphone with 5-inch HD display launched for Rs. 13999

Xolo A1000 that went on sale yesterday has been officially launched in India. We reported about the Xolo A1000 launch earlier this week. It packs a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display . The display One Glass Solution (OGS) Technology that makes the device slimmer. It also offers vivid and sharp visuals as it integrates the touch sensor, display and cover glass into one thus reducing the air gap between all the three. It is just 70.8mm wide and 8.8mm thick, making it easier for single handed operation. WhatsApp Messenger for Android gets Holo UI

There have been several unofficial holo-themed WhatsApp Messenger apps for Android for quite some time. Now WhatsApp has officially released the app for Android with Holo UI on their website. This replaces the old Gingerbread UI. The Holo UI brings changes to the chat screen, attachment icons, expandable notifications (Android 4.1+), scrolling through contacts in alphabetical order, new settings screen and lots more. LG Optimus L Series smartphone sales surpass 15 million units globally

LG has announced that they have sold over 15 million L Series smartphones, the LG Optimus L3, Optimus L5, Optimus L7 and the Optimus L9. The sales of the L Series smartphones crossed 10 million units back in December, and they have sold over 5 million units in just 2 months. LG announced the Optimus L3, L5 and L7 at the MWC 2012. Samsung REX 90 hands on

Samsung launched range of java-based feature phones in the REX series, the REX 60, REX 70, REX 80 and the REX 90 in India today. We got some hands on time with the REX 90, the top end model in the series. We brought you the REX 90 photo gallery earlier today, here is the video. It packs a 3.5-inch (480×320 pixels) HVGA 256k color capacitive touch screen display and has a Touchwiz interface with 7 customizable home screens. It is priced at Rs. 6,490. This has 2G EDGE support, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity similar to the REX 80.

Samsung REX 80 hands on

Samsung, in an effort to revamp its featurephone strategy, launched its new range of smart feature phones recently at a press conference in New Delhi. They are called the REX series of devices and four devices have been launched namely REX 60, REX 70, REX 80 and REX 90. We’ve been taking a look at these phones recently with the photo gallery of the Samsung REX 80, one of the two devices in this range with WiFi in built, along with EDGE. Xolo A1000 with 5-inch HD IPS display, Android 4.1 now available for Rs. 13999


We reported earlier this week about the upcoming Android Smartphone Xolo A1000. Now the phone is now available from online retailer Flipkart. It has a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display One Glass Solution (OGS) Technology that makes the device slimmer. This technology was used in the Spice Stellar Virtuoso Mi-495 that was launched last month.  It is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core Mediatek MT 6577 processor withPowerVR SGX 531 GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has 8MP rear camera with LED Flash and a BSI sensor for low-light imaging. It also has a 1.2 MP front-facing camera with BSI sensor. Samsung REX 70 hands on

The newly launched Samsung REX series of smart feature phones are Samsung’s new entries to the entry level smartphone market. With players like Micromax and Karbonn encroaching the feature phone territory with Android based models, the market is quite wide open. Nokia initially responded with their Asha series of device, and now it’s Samsung’s turn, with their REX 60, 70, 80 and 90. The REX 70 is a 3 inch device with smart Dual SIM functionality, and after we took a photo gallery, here is a hands on video of the Samsung REX 70

Samsung REX 60 hands on

Samsung had launched their new REX series of smart feature phones recently at a press conference in New Delhi here, in India. This is a global launch and the REX series of devices have been designed at the Samsung R&D center in Delhi. Four devices were launched today, as a part of the new REX series, and they are the REX 60, REX 70, REX 80 and the REX 90. Micromax A35 Bolt with 1 GHz processor, Flash Transfer launched for Rs. 4250

Micromax has launched the A35 Bolt, the first Android smartphone in the new Bolt series. It has a 4.0-inch (480 x 800 Pixels) capacitive touch screen display. It is powered by a 1 GHz processor and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It comes with a new Flash Transfer app to swipe ‘n’ share images, videos, songs, files and applications with just a swipe. Users can drag content across the screen or simply shake and share seamlessly between Android devices over WiFi.
