Just after revealing the prices of the highly awaited Motorola Moto G in India, Flipkart, the exclusive launch partner for the device, has also revealed new launch day offers for its customers. Expected to be a timed exclusive, Flipkart is pulling all stops to sell out the most hotly anticipated Indian smartphone launch in the recent times, with bundled offers that might make sense for its own customers. Motorola, a company that exited the Indian smartphone business years back, is now firmly back in play with its successful budget smartphone, but obviously, they had to look at building new distribution channels for the re-entry in the Indian market. Flipkart and Motorola are all set to announce the budget Moto G in India. Just hours before the official announcement, Flipkart has thrown light on the pricing details which was the most expected announcement. Motorola Moto G comes in two variants – 8GB and 16GB and the pricing of 8GB is Rs. 12,499 while the 16GB version costs Rs. 13,999. Motorola Moto G is exclusively available only on Flipkart on launch day and it will be gradually available to other sellers.
ARM Holdings, the British semiconductor company whose processor chip designs power most smartphones reported its earnings for Q4 2013. While the earnings were up 7% year on year, it fellow below analyst estimates owing to slowdown in smartphone sales. The company was estimated to rake in $138 million but reported processor royalties of $130.4m in the fourth quarter of 2013. comScore published its quarterly report for the period of Q4 2013 today and the results show a slight dip in market share for Android. Compared to Q3 2013, Android showed a 0.3 percent dip to reach 51.5 percent market penetration. Trailing Android is Apple with 41.8 percent of the smartphone market being powered by iOS. This was a slight rise from the 40.60% market share it enjoyed in Q3 2013. The launch of the iPhone 5s and 5c are expected to have played a role in this rise. The remaining marketshare was split between with BlackBerry and Microsoft which are at third and fourth spots respectively with 3.4%, 3.1% penetration. Foursquare, the popular location-based social network, has just received a 15 million dollar investment from Microsoft. This equity investment from the Redmond company comes after a successful $35mn round of VC funding for the New York based Startup in December last year, reports the Wall Street Journal. Along with this fresh investment, Microsoft has also entered into a multi-year deal with Foursquare for licensing its vast location-based data. This will apparently be put to use in its Search Engine Bing, and naturally in Windows Phone too, as an extension. Foursquare has a massive point of interest database that’s heavily crowd sourced with tips, check ins, comments and so forth, hence we think this deal is a biggie for Microsoft.

Just as several reports had predicted, Satya Nadella is officially the new Microsoft CEO, succeeding Steve Ballmer as the tech giant’s third Chief Executive Officer. Having led several Microsoft divisions including the wealthy Enterprise and Cloud business, Satya Nadella becomes the insider CEO, after several reports of an outsider being considered as the next CEO. Bill Gates also announced that he will leaving the board Chairman position, leaving way for John Thompson to take over that post, which is seen as a move to appease investors of radically lesser influence from the Gates-Ballmer era. Google is working on its photography suite seriously and it was pretty evident after the Mountain View company acquired Snapseed photo editing app. In the latest move to strength its photography team, Google has pocketed Adobe’s John Nack.
John Nack has been associated with Adobe and one of its primary offering – Adobe Photoshop. John Nack was the Senior Product Manager for Adobe Photoshop. He had been associated with Adobe for 14 years and was the man to lead the company’s first public beta – CS3. Apart from that, he was also responsible for features inside Photoshop like Smart Objects.
In a blog post at Adobe’s website, John Nack bid his former company a adieu and hopes for a great experience at Google. He also said that the two companies have been in good terms and are working to make the best for photographers to tell their tales.
