LG just announced G4 Beat, the company’s latest smartphone in the G4 series and the successor of last year’s G3 Beat. It has a 5.2-inch Full HD display, is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with Adreno 405 GPU and runs on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop). It comes with a 13-megapixel or a 8-megapixel rear camera (depending on the region) with LED flash and Laser AF that should provide fast focus, even in low light conditions. The writing is on the wall. Music streaming is the future. Earlier this year, streaming music revenues didn’t just reach parity but overtook physical sales of CDs. In a market where even retro formats like vinyl are making a resurgence and are now being charted due to rising popularity, CD sales revenues fell 12.7% and digital downloads too showed signs of slowdowns while streaming revenues jumped up 29%. The streaming business has simply become too lucrative for anyone to ignore if they’re even vaguely involved with the music industry. With Apple Music, Cupertino enters the fray and is no doubt about to give stiff competition in a bid to wrestle away a significant share of the pie. Is it good enough to convince you to switch away from Spotify/Rdio/Gaana/Wynk or any other music streaming service you might be on? That’s what I set out to try and figure out. Microsoft culls 7,800 employees amidst restructuring of Lumia business

Microsoft today announced that 7,800 people from its phone division will be getting the pink slip. This follows the 18,000 layoffs over the past year that affected the workforce adopted via Nokia. While shocking for sure, it isn’t particularly surprising given the departure of Stephen Elop, Jo Harlow that signaled the diminishing importance of Windows Phone within the company.
