Download Skype for Symbian Beta

Most of us would have used Skype on the Desktop either for chatting or for Client calls or just talking to your family when you are away.

You can now use it from your Symbian phone without having to logon to your desktop. (Skype via Fring/ Nimbuzz has been around for quite sometime. This is official and supports Skype out calls too)

Skype have announced a beta version of their Symbian application today and it has a lot of features and comes close to the desktop version.

Nokia to close NewYork and Chicago Flagship stores in 2010

Nokia is in cost-cutting mode right now. After announcing closure of its London Flagship store Nokia USA has announced closure of its New York and  Chicago flagship stores. This is sad news because I visited the London store only recently and the Chicago store last year. But in USA everything is so expensive in stores an most consumers prefer to order online. We are actually liking the mini as the screen is VERY responsive and the phone has about 200 odd megabytes of free memory . The phone comes with the 2.0 firmware pre-installed if that’s adorable.

Symbian^3 Concept Screenshots remind us that Symbian is still Alive and Kicking

The folks at AAS love Symbian for sure and they bring us some great screenshots of the Symbian^3 which was shown off at Nokia Capital Markets day yesterday where Nokia even announced plans for Dual SIM phones and a Maemo 6 powered device in 2010.  Many were speculating that Symbian does not have a future and that Nokia might ditch Symbian for Maemo. But this does not seem the case. Nokia is going to be releasing phones in S40, Symbian and Maemo next year.  The screenshots are only from the Concept stage but still they are refreshing . Actual devices might obviously differ when they are announced in first half of 2010

Multiple Homescreen support .  We have been craving for multiple homescreens on Symbian ever since N900 got it.

Video Calls come to iPhone with Fring but only one way

The Mobile Messaging and Calling  Application Fring which recently announced support for Video calls on certain Nokia  and Symbian devices has brought video calling to the iPhone and iPod Touch. But the iPhone supports only one way video calls which Fring claims is due to the location of the Camera on the iPhone.
