ZTE GEEK with Intel Atom Z2580 Clover Trail+ debuts at IDF

Over at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, ZTE has announced its first phone powered by the new 32nm Intel Atom Z2580 processor. The Clover Trail+ platform delivers performance that is twice as fast as the platform that it replaces in terms of computing power. The GPU core is three times faster and Intel has focussed on reducing power consumption.

HTC posts record profit losses in Q1,delayed smartphone shipments to blame

The troubled smartphone manufacturer, HTC, has posted yet another quarter of record profit losses to the tune of 98% year on year. HTC reported its lowest profits with just $2.8 million USD net income for Q1 2013. This the lowest that has ever been reported by the Taiwanese manufacturer in its 16 year history.

Facebook Home brings the social network to your Android homescreen

Facebook today announced its brand new Android Launcher called Facebook Home which will serve as a gateway to the social network’s services. The launcher is meant to replace the default skin on your Android device and hooks in with Facebook centric services. Predictably, the focus here is on sharing and keeping a track of whatever your friends are up to.

Google launches Blink rendering engine based on Webkit

Google has announced today that it is forking Webkit to launch a brand new rendering engine called Blink. Blink will be focussed on speed and simplicity and will be a part of Chromium. The rendering engine will also power future versions of the Chrome app for phones and tablets.

Quickoffice for Android and iOS now available for Google Apps for Business users

Back in June 2012, Google had acquired Quickoffice to strengthen its mobile productivity suite offerings. The company has now rolled out the application to Google Apps for Business customers. The application has already been available on the iPad but now Google and iPhone users too can edit Microsoft Office files using the application on their devices.

HTC First leaked ahead of 4th April Facebook event

Samsung Galaxy Mega line of Android smartphones rumored with 5.8 and 6.3 inch displays

A new report suggests that Samsung might be working on a  new line of devices even larger than the Galaxy Note phablet. Dubbed the Galaxy Mega, the  ‘phones’ will sport displays ranging between 5.8 inches and 6.3 inches. The operating system of choice is expected to be Android.

Reliance JIO Infocomm and Reliance Communications to share RCOM’s optic fiber network

Reliance JIO Infocomm owned by Mukesh Ambani has tied up with Reliance Communications to get acces to the latter’s optic fiber network. RCOM, owned by Anil Ambani, has a cross country fiber network spread across 120,000 kilometeres. The network will serve as the backbone for Reliance Jio’s 4G network.

Zinio to launch on Windows Phone as a Lumia exclusive

Zinio, the popular magazine reading application, has announced its intentions to launch on the Windows Phone 8 platform. The company declared that the application will be made available exclusively to Nokia’s Lumia range of Windows Phone handsets at launch.
