Nokia Lumia 520 deflects a bullet to save police officer’s life

The world’s most popular Windows Phone turned into a life saver for a police man in Sao Paulo, Brazil where a couple of robbers opened fire at him in his house. The Lumia 520, which was sitting in his back pocket took a bullet, and in the end saved his life, and literally his behind too. Nokia, being known for its build quality, will certainly take this as a positive result, but we are sure any phone would have done the same.

Nokia have reportedly sold at least 8 million Lumias last quarter, claims WSJ

In a run up to the Nokia World event set to happen on the 22nd of this month, the Wall Street Journal has published a piece on Nokia, Elop and its future. The report also serves us new information that Nokia have reportedly sold at least 8 million Lumias last quarter, spanning from July to September, which is a more than double of what they had sold the same quarter, last year. This information, credited to “people familiar with the matter” is nothing surprising considering the fact that Nokia had sold 7.4 million Lumias the quarter before, with the momentum of the low cost Lumia 520 and other cheaper devices gaining marketshare all around the world. Major growth markets like India have seen a remarkably fast uptake of the Lumia 520, which is possibly the most VFM phone available, and this has naturally applied to other markets as well.

Nokia India has announced that the Lumia 520 would go on sale from retail stores across India starting from tomorrow, April 6th 2013 for Rs. 10,499. It went up on pre order last week and went on sale online earlier this week. Nokia already announced at the Lumia 520 launch event last month that the phone would come with 1 GB of free 3G data from Reliance per month for 2 months. Now they have announced the phone would come with unlimited access to Facebook and WhatsApp for two months for new and existing Reliance Comm (GSM) subscribers. Nokia Lumia 520 now available on Snapdeal for a price of Rs. 10,390

Nokia Lumia 520, the cheapest Windows Phone 8 device till date was recently launched in India with availability dates promised around the second week of April, but jumping ahead, it has now appeared on Snapdeal, one of the online marketplaces for phones in India. It is showing up as available for Rs. 10,390 with delivery slate as “dispatched within 15 business days” which is normal for any phone they sell. The low-mid end Windows Phone 8 device was initially set to launch globally in Q2, but, India being an important market and following the relatively good success of the Lumia 510, it seems to have been prioritized for India, which is great news for budget smartphone buyers.

Nokia launched the Lumia 520 in India last week. Online retailer Flipkart has put up the device for pre-order at a price tag of Rs. 10,499. It wasunveiled at the Mobile World Congress in 2013 in Barcelona last month, and appeared on the Nokia India Shop online portal earlier this month, which still says ‘coming soon’ without any price tag. It has a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) display with 2D hardened glass, and is super sensitive touch for finger nail and glove use. We brought you the Nokia Lumia 520 photo gallery and having spent a bit more time with the handset, here’s our first hands on impressions of the phone. The Lumia 520 packs in 1Ghz Dual Core Qualcomm processor combined with 512MB RAM which delivers decent performance.

Nokia Lumia 520 with 4-inch IPS display, 1 GHz dual-core processor announced

Nokia has announced the Lumia 520, their new affordable Lumia Windows Phone 8 handset at the MWC 2013. It has a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) display with 2D hardened glass, super sensitive touch for finger nail and glove use and is powered by a 1 GHz dual core processor. It has a 5MP auto focus camera at the back with 720p HD video recording. It uses the similar fabula design as the other Lumia handsets.

Thanks to evleaks, press renders for the both the Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 are now out. These phones would be the successors of the Lumia 710 and the Lumia 510 respectively.
