Twitter’s Periscope for Android has received its third update (v1.0.3) that adds option to view someone’s profile for live and recent broadcasts from the past 24 hours and also lets you share them to Twitter easily. Previously, clicking a profile just showed option to follow or unfollow a person and their follower/following count. This is already available for iPhone. BBC has updated its News app for Android and iOS platforms with a new design. The app also brings new My News section that lets you follow topics from within an article, mobile-first video designed specifically for digital platforms, live BBC World Service radio, most-read and most-watched sections, onward journeys to related articles and video, photo galleries and full-screen images and more. Google Maps for iOS got updated to version 4.7 last month that brought option to send direction from Google Maps desktop to iOS devices. Google Maps for Android now has this feature in the latest update (v9.11.0), as noted by Android Police. This lets you send directions to a place directly to your Android smartphone or a tablet from the desktop. Apple has announced that they will be allowing developers to price their iOS apps as low as Rs 10 on the App Store for customers in India. The change is to help developers price their app higher or lower in select markets as part of ‘Alternate Tier’ pricing.
Facebook has updated News Feed’s Preferences to offer you more control. Now you can select stories from the list of friends or pages to show first, discover pages, select which friends and pages to follow or unfollow and also reconnect with people you unfollowed. WhatsApp has silently updated WhatsApp on the Web with several new features. First spotted by Android Police, WhatsApp Web now lets you change your profile photo by uploading an image, capturing an image and set it as a profile photo if you have a webcam or remove the profile photo. Meerkat for iOS has been updated to version 1.5 that adds new cameo mode that lets your viewers to take over your stream for 60 seconds. You can tap a viewer’s profile or comment “Cameo @username” to invite someone for a cameo. Both can end the cameo at any time. This update also makes use of Facebook API so that you can connect your Facebook account to Meerkat to receive alerts when one of your friends or pages you follow join.

Google has updated its Messenger app for Android to version 1.4 that brings support for location sharing, stickers, and quick scrolling. The location sharing in attach dialog lets you easily share your location, and the recipient gets a small image of the map with the location and a link to Google Maps. Developers of Truecaller Caller ID app has launched Truemessenger, a smart SMS app for Android. It lets you replace your standard SMS app so that you can identify the sender of the SMS and detect, block or report spam, fraud, telemarketing, sales, and unknown phone numbers. It also offers automated spam filter that is powered by 150 million Truecaller community members worldwide. It is available exclusively in India, and the company plans to launch it globally in the near future.
