Samsung launched the Galaxy Star (GT-S5282), the company’s cheapest Android smartphone earlier this year. It launched the Samsung Galaxy Star Pro (GT-S7262), an upgraded version of the Star few months back, with a large screen, more internal storage and a slightly better battery. This uses the same single-core Spreadtrum chip and runs on the same version of the Jelly Bean OS similar to the Star. Is the Star Pro a decent upgrade to the Galaxy Star? Should you go for it? My Vodafone app arrives for Windows Phone 8 devices in India

Vodafone India launched My Vodafone self service app for iOS, Android and Blackberry platforms earlier this year. Now the app is available for Windows Phone platform. Just like other platforms, this lets you pay phone bills, recharge prepaid account, track service requests, subscribe to the best offers and more. You need a valid My Vodafone Login ID and password to use the app. A lot of Windows 8 smartphones including the latest Lumia 1520 did not support the app. Hope Vodafone India would upgrade the app to support more WP8 smartphones. Aircel appoints ZTE for 4G network deployment starting from Tamil Nadu and Chennai

Aircel has appointed China’s ZTE Corporation to supply and deploy its 4G network in India. ZTE had already partnered with Aitel to deploy 4G network in Kolkata and Chandigarh. We already reported that Aircel would start 4G LTE trial starting from Chennai by the end of 2013. Now Aircel has announced that LTE deployment will be initiated in Chennai, Rest of Tamil Nadu (RoTN) and few other business critical circles.

Samsung reportedly sold 40 million tablets in 2013

Samsung has sold 40 million Galaxy tablets in 2013, according to a recent report from a Korean publication, Financial News. Back in November at the Analyst Day 2013, Samsung announced that it aims to sell 40 million tablets and over 100 million Galaxy S and note devices in 2013. Three new Intex smartphones, the Intex Cloud Y3, Cloud Y7 and the Cloud Y13 has been listed on the official Intex website as coming soon. All these smartphones have a 4-inch display, powered by a dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). These have a rear camera with LED flash and front-facing cameras. These have dual SIM support with dual standby, similar to other Intex smartphones. The Intex Cloud Y3 and the Cloud Y7 have  2G (EDGE) support, and the Cloud Y13 have 3G support.

Samsung Electronics has announced they have developed the industry’s first 8 gigabit (Gb) or 1 Gigabyte (1GB) LPDDR4 DRAM for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. This will provide the highest level of density, performance and energy efficiency for mobile memory applications, enabling end users to have faster, more responsive applications, more advanced features, and higher resolution displays while maximizing battery life, said Samsung. Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 spotted at FCC

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 SM-T320 FCC

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (SM-T320) has been spotted at the FCC. According to earlier rumors Samsung would launched this tablet along with the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520/T525) and Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (SM-P900/P905) sometime in Q1 2014. The  Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is expected to feature a 8.4-inch screen, as the name indicates, come with Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac connectivity. It is also likely to come in a 4G LTE variant, similar to the Galaxy Tab 3.

Samsung Galaxy Star Pro Benchmarks

Samsung Galaxy Star Pro Benchmarks

Samsung launched the Galaxy Star Pro, the successor of the Galaxy Star back in October. We already unboxed the device earlier this week. Here we have the benchmarks of the device. The Star Pro packs a 1 GHz single-core Spreadtrum SC6820 processor based on ARM Cortex A5 CPU and has Mali 400 GPU. The phone has a 4.0-inch WVGA (480×800 pixels) display and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS with Samsung’s own Touchwiz UI on top. Since this is just an entry-level chip, the performance would obviously be just average. Let’s find out how it performs in a range of synthetic benchmark tests.

Samsung to introduce new Exynos SoC at CES 2014?

With CES just around the corner, Samsung has already started teasing what it has planned up for CES 2014. SamsungExynos’s Twitter account has teased asking if we are ready to #UnlockExynos. With UnlockExynos, it could possibly mean that Samsung are planning to update their current octa-core solution to true octa-core. Samsung was the first company to announce an octa-core processor and it featured in the Samsung Galaxy S4 which was launched earlier this year.

Huawei launched the Ascend Mate in India back in June, which was one of the best mid-range large-screen smartphones at that time. Now, images of the Ascend Mate 2 has surfaced on weibo from the popular C Technology. According to the images, the Black phone is the Ascend Mate and the White one is the Ascend Mate 2. According to the leaked image, the Ascend Mate 2 has a narrow frame with a smaller bezel. It is also likely to come with brushed metal frame, but this might just have a plastic build that looks like Metal, says the user. Nokia 106 affordable phone goes on sale in India for Rs. 1399

Nokia 106 was announced back in August along with the Nokia 107 Dual SIM for China. Now the phone is available in India from the official Nokia Shop. It has a 1.8-inch (160 x 128 pixels) TFT display, bit larger than the Nokia 105, the company’s most affordable feature phone that was launched in India back in April. Other features are almost similar to the 105, including a dust and splash-proof keypad, 4-way Navi Key and FM Radio support.
