LG Q3 2018 profits up 47.9% YoY as mobile losses narrow

LG Electronics has reported revenues of 15.43 trillion won (US$ 13.76 billion) for the third quarter that ended September 30, 2018, which is up 1.3% compared to the same quarter last year. It posted profits of 748 bilion won (US$ 667.7 million), up 45% YoY, while net profit was 497.1 billion won (US$ 436.5 million) from 336.1 billion won, up 47.9% YoY. Increase in profits is due to strong returns from the home appliances business, however mobile sector has continued to post losses. Samsung Galaxy A6s with 6-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 660, 6GB RAM, dual rear cameras and Galaxy A9s with quad rear cameras announced

Samsung has introduced Galaxy A6s, a new mid-range smartphone as well as A9s with similar specifications as the recently-announced Galaxy A9 2018 (SM-A920F) in China. The A6s has a 6-inch FHD+ display, is powered by Snapdragon 660 with 6GB of RAM, runs Android 8.1 (Oreo), has a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, Dual Pixel technology along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera for AI portrait shots, and a 12-megapixel front camera.

Nokia’s Chennai factory to start manufacturing first 5G radio equipment in India

Nokia has announced that its manufacturing unit in Chennai in South India has started manufacturing 5G New Radio (NR) based on the 3GPP 5G New Radio Release 15 standard. The Chennai plant is one of the largest telecom equipment manufacturing plant in the country. It has recently reached 4 million unit annual production milestone of 2G, 3G and 4G units. Microsoft reports $29.1 billion revenue with 19% YoY growth in Q3 2018, Office products grow 16%

Microsoft has announced third-quarter results ended on 30th September 2018. When compared to the last fiscal year, the revenue is increased by 19% resulting in $29.1 billion, operating income is $10.0 billion with an increase of 29%, the net income was $8.8 billion with 34% increase, and the diluted earnings per share was $1.14 and increased 36%. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 with 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, up to 10GB RAM, slide-out design, dual front and rear cameras announced

Xiaomi just announced Mi MIX 3, the company’s latest flagship smartphone in the Mi MIX series at an event in China, as it had promised. It has a 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display 93.4% screen-to-body ratio, thanks to narrow bottom bezels which is reduced by 4.46mm compared to the Mi MIX 2S. It also has a customized antenna design so the antenna space is reduced by 72%. It is powered by Snapdragon 845 with up to 10GB of RAM, has support for Google ARCore and runs Android 8.1 (Oreo) with support for AI voice assistant as well as a dedicated AI button to launch it.

Apple and Samsung fined $5.7 million each by Italian anti-trust watchdog over slowing down phones

Italy’s anti-trust watchdog has fined Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics 5 million euros ($5.7 million) each over reports suggesting both the companies slowed down their phones through software updates. the Cupertino company was hit with an additional 5 million euro fine for failing to give clear information about how to maintain or eventually replace handset batteries.
