Micromax has announced that it has appointed Sanjay Kapoor Chairman of the board and a part of Micromax’s promoter group. The company recently appointed former Samsung India Mobile business head Vineet Taneja as its Chief Executive Officer. Tata DOCOMO launched Photon Max Wi-Fi dongle last year. At the launch Tata Docomo offered speeds of up to 6.2 Mbps. Today the company has announced that it has upgraded the data speed of up to 9.8Mbps for the dongle since they have upgraded their network. All existing customers will automatically be able to access the higher speeds on their network as the network upgrade will be compatible with existing Photon Max Wi-Fi devices. This is currently available for customers in Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. It would be subsequently extended to 8 other metro cities. Gionee launched the Elife S5.5, the world’s slimmest smartphone in India back in March that went on sale recently. We already brought you the unboxing of the device. Here we have the benchmarks of the smartphone. It is powered by a 1.66 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor which has 8 ARM Cortex-A7 CPUs and is based on 28nm HPM. It has a Mali 450-MP4 GPU, comes with a 5-inch HD display and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) with Amigo 2.0 UI on top. Check out the synthetic benchmark results below.
Videocon Telecom has announced that it has partnered with Huawei to implement 4G LTE-ready Packet Core technology. Under this partnership, Videocon Telecom would use Huawei’s Evolved Packet Core (EPC) technology for the Core Network that would allow them to cater to its nationwide 4G data services rollout. Lenovo A7-50, the company’s latest tablet is now on sale in India through the official online store. It was announced back in April along with a range of tablets. It has a 7-inch (1280 x 800) HD IPS display, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8382 processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) that is upgradable to Android 4.4 (KitKat). Oppo Mobile India has just sent us a press invite for the launch of the Oppo Find 7 on June 11th as it promised back in April. It is the company’s flagship smartphone that was announced back in March. The Find 7 has a 5.5-inch (2560×1440 pixels) Quad HD 538ppi LTPS display with Corning gorilla glass protection, powered by a 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) processor with Adreno 330 GPU and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) with Color OS on top. Owing to migration of a large user base from feature phones to smartphones, India has recorded 186% growth in smartphone shipment in Q1 of 2014, according to IDC. The smartphone penetration in India still hovers at 10% and it is expected to grow due to a variety of factors including greater availability of low-cost devices and additional sales emphasis by top-flight vendors on less populous parts of the country.

It has a 4-inch WVGA display, powered by a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor with Mali 400 GPU and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Sony has launched XSP- N1BT, a Smartphone Cradle Receiver that would let you turn your smartphone into a car stereo. You can use the smartphone to control music, navigation, phone calls and text messages. This lets you place the smartphone securely in the dash. The new AppRemote interface uses the smartphone’s touchscreen to control head-unit functions via Bluetooth (Android devices) or via USB (iPhone). It was unveiled back in April, went on sale few weeks back and packs a 2.8-inch (320 x 240 pixels) QVGA LCD screen, dust and splash proof keymat and loud audio output up to 103 phon output with Donau speaker. S Mobility has launched Spice Stellar 360, the company’s latest smartphone in the Stellar series with a physical QWERTY keyboard. It has a 3.5-inch HVGA screen, powered by a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 3.2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It also has 3G connectivity and dual SIM support, similar to other Spice smartphones. Back in February, just ahead of the Mobile World Congress, Gionee announced the Elife S5.5 which is currently the slimmest smartphone. The Gionee Elife S5.5 comes with a Full HD AMOLED display and is powered by MediaTek’s Octa-core SoC. It also comes with a 13MP camera module on the back. The device is super thin and today, we have the device at our office and we will be bringing you the unboxing.
Xolo has officially launched the Q600s, the company’s latest budget smartphone running on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It went on sale online earlier this week and packs a 4.5-inch qHD display based on One Glass Solution (OGS), powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Broadcom processor and has 1GB of RAM. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. This would compete with Moto E, Micromax Unite 2 A106 and the Lava Iris X1.
