Lava has launched the Iris 458q, the company’s latest flagship smartphone in the Iris series. It has a 4.5-inch (854 ×480 pixels) FWVGA capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash and a 0.3MP (VGA) front-facing camera. It has a slim form factor with curved corners and has matte finish on the back. It comes with range of pre-loaded applications such as WeChat, Ebook reader and more with HD movies and HD games.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has been on a spree today with announcement of a stunning 1.1 billion USD Tumblr acquisition. iBall has launched the Slide Q9703, the company’s latest tablet in the Slide Performance series. It has a 9.7-inch (2048 x 1536 pixels) HD IPS 10 multi-touch retina display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with PowerVR SGX544 MP2 GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel auto focus camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. We reviewed the Zync Quad 9.7 that comes with similar features, but the Zync tablet is cheaper. This also includes 4K video player that lets you play videos at 4K resolution (4,096 × 2,304 pixels) on the tablet.

HTC J One announced for Japan, packs a microSD card slot

HTC has announced the HTC J One (HTL22), a variant of the HTC One for Japan’s KDDI network. The global variant of the HTC One that was announced earlier this year doesn’t come with a microSD card slot but the HTC JOne for Japan has a microSD card slot, in addition to the 32GB internal memory. Other features are similar to the HTC One including a 4.7 inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD Super LCD3 display at 468ppi, 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processo, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with the new HTC Sense UI and HTC BlinkFeed, 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera with LED Flash, BSI Sensor, Optical Image Stabilization ,F2.0 aperture and 28 mm lens Full HD (1080p) video recording with HDR Video and a 2.1MP HD front-facing camera with 88 wide angle lens with HDR.

Sony Mobile has announced the Xperia UL (SOL22) for Japan. It has a 5-inch Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Reality display with mobile Bravia Engine 2, powered by 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ 8064 processor with Adreno 320 GPU and runs on 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13.1-megapixel rear camera with BSI Exmor RS sensor Sensor, LED Flash and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. The rear camera can capture 15 burst shots per second. It has IPX5/8 and IPX5 ratings for water and dust resistance. Sony announced the Xperia A, a mid-range Android smartphone with a 4.55-inch HD display in Japan recently.

Xolo X910 that surfaced online recently is now available from online retailer Snapdeal. It comes with a 4.3-inch (960 x 540 pixels) capacitive touch screen display with 256 ppi pixel density, powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor Intel Atom Z2460 processor with 400 MHz PowerVR SGX 540GPU and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. Both the Flipkart and Snapdeal mentions that the phone would come with dual SIM support. This is the second Intel Atom-powered phone to come with dual SIM support, after the Xolo X500 that was launched earlier this year. HP has announced the SlateBook x2 the company’s new tablet with support for a keyboard dock similar to the Asus Transformer series. The SlateBook X2 has a 10.1-inch (1920 by 1200 pixels) IPS display, powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). ASUS Fonepad updated with better specs – Intel Z2460 and 32 GB internal storage

The ASUS Fonepad has been in our labs for quite some time, and in our review, you might have noticed that we were disappointed with the Fonepad’s performance. It even suffered in our gaming performance tests. But if you are still waiting on buying one, then good news awaits you. ASUS has just announced and launched a new Fonepad with better specs. The “Lexington” Intel Z2420 chipset has been swapped with the better performing Intel Z2460, and the 16GB internal storage, which gave us only 11GB of usable memory has been doubled to 32GB. All the other specs remain intact though, with the display still highly reflective, we guess. But still, a good thing that ASUS heard customer feedback and swiftly fixed it. However, there is a price to pay for the new version of Fonepad. It will be 60$ higher than before, a good 3,300 INR higher in our case.
