After an open-house held by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today regarding interconnection usage charges (IUC) where Reliance Jio proposed to make IUC zero, Airtel has sent out a release saying that Reliance Jio is creating monopoly, throttling competition by proposing zero IUC. “By proposing a transition to the ‘Bill and Keep’ regime with zero MTC, Reliance Jio wants to simply transfer its cost to Airtel and other operators,” said Airtel.
After the launch of FRC 348 with Unlimited Calls, 84GB data in UP East, the company has launched RC 333 data pack in Karnataka that offers 30GB of 3G data with the validity of 30 days and no daily limits. “All Aircel customers with 2G, 3G or 4G handsets can avail the offer,” said the company. The first image of a VoLTE feature phone from Jio surfaced earlier this year. Now a new LYF branded Jio VoLTE feature phone has surfaced in images. We still don’t know the final name of the phone, but TechPP that got hold of the images of the phone says that the phone runs KAI OS, a forked version of HTML5-based Firefox OS that was killed by Mozilla last year. Just yesterday, Maharashtra cyber police detained a man who was suspected to be involved in the recent Jio data user leak. The accused has been identified by his nickname ‘Imran Chippa’ and was arrested from Churu district in Rajasthan.

FoneArena first reported about the massive data leak of over 120 million users of Reliance Jio users on Sunday. Now, a latest report from Reuters states that police have detained a suspect in western Indian state of Rajasthan. The man is suspected to be involved in leaking personal data of over 120 million Jio users to a website named “Magicapk.com”.

Reliance Jio started testing JioFiber last year. When it reported earnings back in April, it said that it started roll-out of its Fibre to the Home (FTTH) business by offering beta trials in a few locations. It also said that it will expand the scope of the beta trials over the next few months. In May it even confirmed that beta trials are being rolled out in select areas of Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat and Vadodara. Reliance Jio launched Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan offer back in April after the Summer Surprise Offer was withdrawn as per TRAI’s recommendation. As the 84-day Dhan Dhana Dhan offer ends this month for those activated it back in April, it has launched new plans for the Prime members. It has also revised Rs. 309 Dhan Dhana Dhan pack that offered 84 days validity to 56 days validity and has launched the same 84-day validity plan for Rs. 399 with 1GB data per day. In an interesting development , Jio customer data has been leaked on an independent website named magicapk. Several sensitive details including first name, last name ,mobile number, email-id,circle, SIM Activation Date and even Aadhaar Number have been exposed. To my disbelief I found my own details in the database and also couple of my colleagues are affected too.

Airtel just confirmed that its network services in Delhi NCR have been fully restored after a temporary network outage in the circle. People in the region started tweeting about network outage around 7:30 PM, and Airtel acknowledged the issue at about 9PM. “We may be facing a temporary issue while accessing Data/Voice/SMS. We are working to restore it ASAP,” replied Airtel to the customers who were complaining.

After Xiaomi, ASUS has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Reliance Jio to offer up to 10GB data per month for up to 10 recharges or up to 100GB for 10 months. The ‘Additional Data Offer’ is available for Jio Prime members who have purchased any of these eligible ASUS devices from 16th June, 2017 either from online or offline channel. Customer will get an additional data voucher with every Recharge of Rs. 309 or above, limited to 10 recharges till 31st March, 2018.
Last year there was a report that said that Reliance Jio will launch feature phones with VoLTE support soon. We even saw an image of a Rs. 1299 feature phone earlier this year with shortcut keys for MyJio, Jio Live TV, Jio video and Jio Music. Even though we did not see the phone, there were reports that said that we might see an affordable VoLTE feature phone for under Rs. 1000. Now a new ET report says that Reliance Jio will disrupt the market with VoLTE feature phones for under Rs. 500.
