Airtel is all set to launch its own 4G VoLTE smartphone running Android under Rs. 2000 by Diwali, according to people familiar with the matter. This will take on JioPhone, Reliance Jio’s first feature phone started rolling out to customers starting last week. Micromax is also rumored to release Bharat One 4G VoLTE feature phone at Rs. 1,500 this week.

Since Airtel’s smartphone runs Android, you can install WhatsApp and other applications. Airtel launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in India starting from Mumbai last month and is gearing to launch VoLTE in Chennai soon. Airtel already said that it will roll out VoLTE across the country over the next few months.

The smartphone will have a 4-inch screen, pack 1GB of RAM, feature front and rear cameras and a 1600mAh battery.  It is not clear which Android version it will run and there are no details about the internal storage. It will likely come with microSD expansion slot and come with dual SIM support.

The smartphone is currently being finalized and will be launched before Diwali.
