Airtel has launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in India starting from Mumbai, as expected, making it the second operator in the country to offer VoLTE after Reliance Jio. This lets Airtel customers enjoy HD quality voice calls along with faster call set up time compared to normal voice calls on their VoLTE-compatible 4G handsets. Airtel already offers 4G Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology in Mumbai that offers data speeds of up to 135 Mbps by combining spectrum capacities in 2300MHz (TD LTE) and 1800 MHz (FD LTE). Airtel back in July confirmed that the company is trialing 4G VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) services across five circles in the country and will officially launch VoLTE across it circles later this year. Reliance Jio unveiled its JioPhone at the 40th AGM in July and the pre-bookings for the phone began August 24th at 5:30PM. Bookings for the phone crossed 3 million in a couple of hours after the bookings opened even though there were issues booking online and through MyJio app. In 24 hours bookings for the phone crossed 6 million through online and offline channels, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Reliance Jio unveiled its JioPhone at the 40th AGM last month, and the company said that pre-booking for the phone will start on August 24th. As promised today the company has announced that the phone will be available for pre-booking through MyJio app and jio.com online as well as Jio retailers and multi-brand device retailers including the Reliance Digital stores network offline at 5:30PM tomorrow.

Reliance Jio unveiled JioPhone, the company’s first VoLTE feature phone last month. It will start pre-bookings for the phone from 5:30PM today. At the launch it revealed some of the specifications such as 2.4-inch QVGA screen,microSD slot, torch light, FM Radio, support for 22 major Indian languages and voice commands to call someone, reject a call, browse internet, open apps and more. It already confirmed NFC support, and said that tap-and-pay payments through UPI, credit and debit cards will be enabled through software update. Reliance Jio launched its MyJio app back in May last year before it started offering Jio Preview Offer for consumers. Earlier this week it crossed 100 million or 10 Crore installs on the Google Play Store. It crossed 50 million installs back in December last year after it hit 10 million in September last year. Aircel today launched a new First Recharge Coupon (FRC) 449 and 229 for its new customers in J&K that offer unlimited (Local & STD) calls with 84 days validity. The 449 pack offers 168GB 3G data at 2GB per day and the 229 pack offers 84GB 3G data at 1GB 3G data per day All Aircel customers with 2G, 3G or 4G handsets can avail the offer, said the company. Reliance Jio is in talks with WhatsApp to create a special version of the popular messaging app for newly launched JioPhone, according to a latest report from Factor Daily. Both the companies are planning to introduce a toned-down version of WhatsApp on the feature phone.

Last year there was a report that said Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular were gearing up to launch VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) services to take on Reliance Jio who launched pan-India 4G LTE services with VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) back in September last year. Now Airtel has announced that it will launch VoLTE services in the country by end of current financial year, which is by March 2018.
