Facebook buys 9.99% stake in Reliance Jio for Rs. 43,574 crore

Facebook today announced that it will buy 9.99% equity stake in Jio Platforms Limited, part of Reliance Industries Limited on a fully diluted basis for $5.7 billion or INR 43,574 crore, making Facebook its largest minority shareholder, the largest investment for a minority stake by a technology company anywhere in the world and the largest FDI in the technology sector in India. Airtel further extends prepaid validity till May 3; Vodafone Idea extends validity for feature phone users [Update: Jio and BSNL]

Update: 21st April 2020 – Following the announcement by Airtel and Vodafone IDEA, now BSNL and Reliance Jio have announced validity extension for prepaid users. Unlike Airtel which has increased validity only for limited number of users, Jio is extending incoming call validity for all users. Government of India extended nationwide lockdown till May 3rd 2020 to prevent the spread of coronavirus and as a result of lockdown, e-commerce companies were not selling non-essential goods like electronics.
