The Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas 2 was the phone that kickstarted a new range of big screened smartphones from Micromax, and after the success of the Canvas HD, Micromax seems ready for yet another device, called the “Canvas 4”. Micromax teased the side-facing image of the upcoming phone and the ever important pre-booking date of June 28.

Micromax launched the A88 Canvas Music, the first Music Phone in the Canvas series last month. It has a 4.5-inch  (854 x 480 pixels) display and run on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It is powered by a 1 Ghz dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor based on ARM Cortex A9 with PowerVR SGX531 GPU. Here are the benchmarks of the device compared to other Android smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 up for pre-order at Rs. 30990

Samsung launched the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9200) in India at a price tag of Rs. 31,490 along with the Mega 5.8. The Mega 5.8 went on sale in India last month, now the Mega 6.3 is available for pre-order from online retailers Flipkart and Infibeam. The official Samsung eStore has not started taking pre-orders for the device yet. The Mega 6.3 has a 6.3-inch HD ( 1280 x 720 pixels) TFT capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash and a 1.9 MP front-facing camera. Swipe Telecom has tied-up with MTV once again to launch the MTV Volt 1000, successor of the Volt that was launched earlier this year.  It has a 6-inch (854 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. This has 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB in its predecessor and the battery has gone down to 2850 mAh. There are 8 genres including bollywood, Hollywood, realty, lifestyle, music, comedy and more. Airtel launched a similar Re. 1 mobile video download service last month. AMD powered Android devices coming soon

We were at the AMD India Techno Graffiti event last night, and during the Q&A session we asked the all important question of AMD’s future in mobile. The answer first was in the context of mobile being laptops and tablets and how AMD are going for the hybrid nascent segment of low powered computing devices unlike the cheaper small-screened consumption devices. But when asked if Android powered devices are a possibility with AMD chip powering them, the answer was yes. AMD India’s head told us that AMD is working on bringing Android powered devices to its portfolio but couldn’t say when.

Huawei Ascend Mate now available in India for Rs. 28900


Huawei Ascend Mate, the company’s latest flagship smartphone is now available in India from online retailer Infibeam. It was spotted on Flipkart along with a price tag earlier this week, but the page was removed later. It packs a 6.1-inch 720p display, powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Hi-Silicon K3V2 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with Huawei’s EmotionUI 1.5 on top. Indian Railways to introduce SMS-based ticket booking from July 1st

IRCTC  has announced that SMS-based ticket booking on July 1st. IRCTC would also launch the  USSD (Unstructured supplementary data) based booking soon. The designated number for booking would be unveiled later. For the SMS-based ticket service, customers need to register with their banks (26 banks are supported) to generate a Mobile Money Identifier (MMID) and a one-time password (OTP). For the menu-based USSD system, the payment can be authorized through a mobile wallet which requires mPIN. 6 tickets can be booked in a single transaction similar to the online booking. Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7-inch and Fire HD 8.9-inch tablets launched in India starting at Rs. 15999

Amazon has finally released the  Kindle Fire HD and Fire HD 8.9″ tablets in India. Both these tablets were announced last year. The Kindle Fire HD has a 7-inch (1280×720 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP4460 Dual Core CPU. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ has a 8.9-inch (1920 x 1200 pixels) display with 254 ppi. Both these tablets have Dolby audio with dual stereo speakers for immersive, virtual surround sound and Dual-band WiFi with dual-antennas / MIMO for 40% faster throughput than other tablets. Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo now available in India for Rs. 6990


Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo (GT-S5312) is now available in India from online retailers Flipkart and Snapdeal. It was announced back in April along with the Galaxy Star and was spotted on the official Samsung India website last month. The Galaxy Star was officially launched in India last month. It has a 3-inch (320 x 240 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 850 MHz  processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 2-megapixel rear camera and comes with Dual SIM support with Dual SIM Always ON that lets you receive calls on one SIM even when you are using the other one. Back in April Samsung started offering 15% cash back on purchase of select Galaxy devices using select credit cards. It extended the cash back offer till the 31st of May for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and also announced that the offer is applicable for debit card purchases. It appeared on the official website earlier this month as Aspire Full HD. It has a 13.1-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby.
