Apple reportedly teams up with Shazam to integrate song identification into iOS

Apple has partnered Shazam to work on a song identification tool for iOS 8, according to reports from Bloomberg. The feature will allow users to identify a song using their iPhone or iPad’s microphone. The report states that users will be able to access the song identification feature via Apple’s digital voice assistant, Siri. Hence, Siri will answer once a user asks “What song is playing” as it will generate the data from Shazam which has more than 90 million users.

Nokia X gets a price cut in India, now available for Rs. 7027

Nokia launched the Nokia X in India last month priced at Rs. Rs. 8599. It received a price cut recently and is available for as low as Rs. 7027. The Nokia X is the first smartphone from Nokia based on Android. It has a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 play (MSM8225) processor and runs on Nokia X software platform based on AOSP Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Google updates YouTube for Android with new features

Google seems to be hard at work in updating its Android apps as we have had leaks suggesting complete overhaul for its Gmail app and Calendar app. Google had also just launched its own Google Camera application on the Play Store yesterday and today, it has updated the YouTube application for Android.

LG unveiled the L Series III lineup that includes L40, L70 and L90 at the MWC 2014 back in February. Both the L70 and L90 smartphones went on sale in India recently. The LG L65 Dual went on sale in Russia recently. Now @eveaks has leaked the press image of the single SIM variant, L65. It has a 4.3-inch WVGA display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Google Q1 2014 earnings reported at $15.42 billion, grow 19% YoY

Earlier today, Google revealed its results for Q1 2014 and posted revenues of $15.42 billion. Earnings per share were reported at $6.27 and this was below the estimated $6.42 per share. The company missed analyst estimates of $15.52 billion in revenue and it can be attributed to Mountain View’s recent stock split amongst other things. Google Camera app now available for download on the Play Store

Google has released their stock camera app in the Play Store for all the Android devices running on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and later. This has a new interface and adds a lens blur feature like DSLR. Lens Blur lets you change the point or level of focus after the photo is taken. Samsung to launch Tizen smartphone in Q2 2014, Android Wear smartwatch coming later this year?

Samsung was expected to launch their first Tizen-based smartphone last year, but it didn’t happen. Even after some leaks, we didn’t get to see the Tizen smartphone at the MWC earlier this year. Samsung senior VP for product strategy, Hankil Yoon has confirmed to Reuters that it would launched the first Tizen-based smartphone this quarter. Samsung debuted the first Tizen-based Gear line-up at the MWC, but it also plans to launch an Android-based smartwatch later this year. Lava has launched the Iris 504Q+, the successor of last year’s Iris 504Q. It has a similar 5-inch HD display based on OGS technology and runs on Android 4.2, but this is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and has a 10-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor and LED flash. It also has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It has gesture motion and voice controls to capture images using the voice command and the gesture feature lets users change tracks, switch between homescreens, tune FM channels and browse gallery.

Google Play Store clocks the most downloads but still lags behind App Store in revenue

According to new statistics released by App Annie Index, Google’s Play Store exceeded the iOS app store by 45% in total downloads but still lagged behind when it comes to actual revenues. Worldwide, it is clear that Android is dominating the market, with over 80% marketshare, which has led to a surge in downloads from emerging markets like Russia and Brazil, but the downside is that a large number of apps on Android are free or based on the freemium model, which drastically lowers the barrier of entry, keeping the target markets in mind, whereas Apple’s iOS enjoys higher marketshare and install base in developed countries. The Project Ara team from Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) division at Google is working hard to bring the modular smartphone that would let users to swap the components easily to upgrade the phone. Samsung ChatON messenger now lets you translate between Hindi and English

Samsung updated their ChatON messenger app to version 3.5 for Android earlier this month that brought new features. At an event Samsung India has revealed that the ChatON 3.5 would also offer instant message translation between English and Hindi. It also supports 14 Indian languages and has Indianized Anicons or animated icons. It also detailed more feature aimed at Indian users. Oppo R1S with 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon processor gets certified in China

Oppo R1 that was unveiled back in December last year had a quad-core MediaTek processor, Oppo R1S codenamed R8007 has been certified on TENNA in China. This is expected to come with a 1.6 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 (MSM8928) processor and would come with the same 5-inch HD display. Samsung Gear wearable devices compatible with 20 Galaxy devices

Samsung launched the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit in India and other countries globally. The company has announced that all these devices would support 20 Galaxy devices including 12 smartphones and 8 Galaxy tablets. The first Samsung Galaxy Gear was compatible only with three Galaxy devices initially and later got updated to support more Galaxy devices.
