Microsoft and LinkedIn today announced that both have entered into an agreement, under which Microsoft will acquire LinkedIn for $196 per share in an all-cash transaction valued at $26.2 billion. LinkedIn will retain its distinct brand, culture and independence. Jeff Weiner will remain CEO of LinkedIn, reporting to Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. Microsoft opens cyber security engagement centre in India

Microsoft today opened its Cyber Security Engagement Centre (CSEC) in Gurgaon, India to enhance cybersecurity. “This aims to drive public-private partnerships to fight cybercrime, strengthen the cooperation with Indian businesses, government and academic organizations on cybersecurity, and increase its contribution towards securing Indian computer and internet users from cybercrime threats,” said the company. Xiaomi to buy 1500 patents from Microsoft, preload Office and Skype on its devices

Microsoft and Xiaomi have entered into a cross-license and patent transfer agreement. As a part of the deal, Xiaomi is acquiring 1,500 patents from Microsoft and will pre-load Microsoft Office and Skype apps on its Android smartphones and tablets. This is a part of Microsoft’s revised mobile strategy which focuses on getting its software and services onto iOS and Android devices instead of focusing on Windows devices alone. Microsoft announces 1850 job cuts in smartphone business

Microsoft Corporation today announced that it plans to cut 1,850 jobs to streamline the company’s smartphone hardware business. Last year it cut 7,800 jobs from its phone division to refocus its phone efforts, after 18,000 layoffs the previous year that affected the workforce adopted via Nokia. The company recently announced that it will sell its feature phone business to FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group and and HMD Global for $350 million.

Microsoft to sell feature phone business to Foxconn for $350 million

Microsoft today announced that it has agreed to sell its entry-level feature phone business to FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group and and HMD Global for $350 million. FIH Mobile will also acquire Microsoft Mobile Vietnam, it’s manufacturing facility in Hanoi, Vietnam. Microsoft Windows 10 Mobile to get fingerprint support this summer

Windows 10 operating system supports fingerprint unlock feature using Windows Hello in addition to face and iris unlock. Microsoft has confirmed at the WinHEC conference earlier this week that it plans to support fingerprint scanners for Windows 10 Mobile as well later this year.
