Microsoft has announced that it has agreed to acquire two new game development studios; Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment. Obsidian Entertainment was founded in 2003 by industry veterans from Black Isle Studios, led by Feargus Urquhart. As for inXile Entertainment, it is a team of industry veterans with decades of PC and RPG expertise. Microsoft back in September announced that it would soon bring support for mouse and keyboard to Xbox One and it looks like it’s here. The company mentioned that it would launch on November 14th. Thanks to ProjectxCloud, Microsoft is aiming to bring ‘console quality’ gaming to phones and tablet. Since the touch controls still pretty bad, the company might be planning on bringing physical controllers to mobile devices to offset this problem.

Microsoft has announced that it has completed its acquisition of GitHub in a $7.5 billion all stock deal that was signed back in June. As both the companies already said, GitHub will retain its developer-first ethos, operate independently and remain an open platform. Nat Friedman, former CEO of Xamarin (acquired by Microsoft in 2016) will be taking over as GitHub’s CEO, reporting to Scott Guthrie, Microsoft Cloud + AI Group Executive Vice President.

Microsoft has announced third-quarter results ended on 30th September 2018. When compared to the last fiscal year, the revenue is increased by 19% resulting in $29.1 billion, operating income is $10.0 billion with an increase of 29%, the net income was $8.8 billion with 34% increase, and the diluted earnings per share was $1.14 and increased 36%. Microsoft has announced it will be disabling ‘Transport Layer Security’ (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 by default in supported versions of Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 in the first half of 2020. This change is in line with announcements from Apple, Google, and Mozilla to supports more performant, secure connections. Microsoft rolled out the dictation feature in the Word desktop app earlier this year and it is making its way to the web version of the office. The dictation feature to word and OneNote online will be available in the coming weeks. The company says that it will work on any browser. Microsoft has announced Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2, Surface Studio 2, as well as new Surface Headphones at an event, as it had promised. The Surface Pro 6 is powered by Intel 8th Gen Quad Core processors and comes in new Black color option. Other specs are similar to the Surface Pro 5.
Volkswagen and Microsoft announced that they are partnering to develop the Volkswagen Automotive Cloud, a dedicated global cloud platform that will provide digital mobility services across the automaker’s portfolio. Volkswagen Automotive cloud will be built from the ground up on top of Microsoft’s Azure cloud and IoT Edge platform as its technology foundation.
