Android continues reign with 84% of global market share in Q3 2014: Report

Android continued its dominance and captured 84% of global market share in Q3 of 2014, according to a latest report from Strategy Analytics. For the third quarter, global shipments of Android-based smartphones reached 268 million, up from 206 million for the same quarter a year ago.

Lenovo Vibe X2 launching in India on November 6th

Lenovo India just sent out press invites for the launch of the Vibe X2 on November 6th, the company’s latest high-end smartphone in the X series. The Lenovo Vibe X2 was announced at IFA back in September and packs a 5-inch 1080p display, powered by a 2 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6595 processor and runs on Android 4.4 (Kitkat) with Vibe UI 2.0 on top. Motorola releases Kernel Source Codes for Moto X(2014) and Moto G(2014)

Motorola has published the Android 4.4.4 KitKat build Kernel Source Code for Moto X(2014) and Moto(2014), according to Android Police. The initial kernel source code for Motorola Moto X (2014) is codenamed ‘Victara’, while that of the Moto G (2014)  is dubbed ‘Titan’.

Flipkart launches Android Wear app

Flipkart, India’s e-commerce giant has launched its app for Android Wear platform. This lets users receive push notifications from Flipkart app pushed to the smartwatch and viewing Flipkart wishlist, but the company plans to include accessing order tracking related information, price drop notification and personalized offer notification for the Android Wear app soon. Google Nexus 6 coming soon to Flipkart

Last month Google announced the Nexus 6, the company’s flagship Nexus smartphone made by Motorola. Soon after the announcement Motorola India revealed that the smartphone would roll in 28 countries, including India starting later this year. HTC One (M8) to likely receive Android 5.0 update with Sense 6 instead of Sense 7

HTC announced last month that One (M8) and One (M7) will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update “within 90 days of receiving final software”. Last week, leaked screenshots of the device showed the Android 5.0 update with a layer of Sense 7 UI over it.

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 smartphones in its new A Series, after several rumors.Both these smartphones have full metal unibody, slim designs. These are Samsung’s slimmest smartphone to date. The Galaxy A5 is just 6.7mm thick and the Galaxy A3 is 6.9mm thick. These are aimed at young and trend conscious consumers, says the company. Today the company has announced that it would offer 39 paid Android apps and games worth over $115 for free on the Amazon AppStore starting Thursday, 30th October to Saturday, 1st November 2014. Rovio, creators of popular Angry Birds game has launched Angry Birds Transformers for Android, couple of after it was launched for iOS, as it promised. This has a different gameplay, compared to other Angry Birds themed games. It has Autobirds, brave band of heroes that features Red as Optimus Prime, Chuck as Bumblebee and more. These have lasers and turn into cars. The Autobirds can’t save Piggy Island on their own – to stop the EggBots they’ll need to join forces with their arch rivals the Deceptihogs.
