London-based consumer technology brand Nothing has announced that its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone (3), will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The Phone (3), claimed to be the company’s “first flagship smartphone”, will be released on July 1st at an event in London.
Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, announced this news on his company’s YouTube channel, where he answers questions on the tech space, over-ear audio category, Essential Space, and the R&D that’s gone into Phone (3).
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is Qualcomm’s latest top-end SoC and the successor to last year’s 8s Gen 3. It’s an octa-core 5G SoC with a Cortex-X4 as the prime core, clocking up to 3.2GHz. Carl Pei promises an overall balanced experience and a much powerful processor with the Phone (3). He said:
We really have to outperform our previous flagship, so compared to Phone (2) it’s going to be 36% faster on CPU, 88% stronger on GPU, and 60% stronger on the NPU. But what it means in practice, it will feel a lot snappier.
We wanted to create a balanced experience. This time everything else also got much better, so we needed an even stronger chip to drive it. People will use these products for many hours a day, so for us it’s about creating a holistic experience.
He also answered a question regarding the over-ear audio category, where he claimed that the overall market is “boring” and largely follows the same design as Sony’s XM series. He further stated that Nothing Headphone (1), which will launch alongside Phone (3), will offer “something different and compelling” in the over-ear headphone space.
Essential Space, a preview feature that went live with the Phone (3a), seems to have been well received, with users engaging with it at least once a week. Further enhancements are expected with the release of the Phone (3). You can head over to Nothing’s YouTube channel to watch the full video.
Nothing Phone (3) Information So Far…
Recently, Nothing confirmed several information about the device. The company posted a design teaser for the phone, and said that the phone will not come with Glyph LEDs. Based on teasers, including the lastest one, the phone is said to use dot matrix pattens on the back. The Phone (3), like the Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF phones, will be manufactured in India to cater to the demands of the Indian market.
The Nothing Phone (3) 12GB + 256GB version is said to be priced at USD 799 (Rs. 68,320), which is USD 100 more compared to the same version of the Nothing Phone (2).
The phone will get a 16GB + 512GB version for the first time, replacing the 12GB + 512GB version in the processor, and is said to cost US 899 (Rs. 76,865), again a USD 100 price increase, based on rumours.
The Nothing Phone (3) launch event on July 1st starts at 6PM BST (10:30PM IST). As usual, the company will offer a live stream on YouTube.
