In an effort to enhance its Google Translate service, Google has acquired Quest Visual for an undisclosed sum.  Founded by former video game developer Otavio Good in 2009, the company is the maker of the popular translation app Word Lens.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, Galaxy S5 Google Play edition pass Bluetooth certification

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime (SM-G906L) has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website and seems to have passed the Bluetooth certification. The Korean variant of the Galaxy S5 Prime (SM-G906K) appeared briefly on the official Korean website recently and another variant, SM-G906S appeared on a Hong Kong retail site few days back. Google’s Android Silver may launch Feb 2015, Snapdragon 810-powered LG handset to be one of the first?

There were rumors at the end of last month that Google is replacing its Nexus line of devices with high-end Android Silver phones. Last week, Chromium code of Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 were spotted online on the Code Review page. Today, popular Twitter leaker @evleaks has revealed that Google is planning to scrap its Nexus line and hence we will not see a Nexus 6.

BlackBerry has updated BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps to support Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) from Android 4.2.2 as it promised. Apple, Google dismiss Motorola-related patent suits

Apple and Google’s Motorola Mobility reached a truce agreeing to dismiss all patent-infringement claims against each other. Both these companies agreed to work together in some areas of patent reform, but this agreement doesn’t include a cross license for the patents. Last month Google, Apple, Intel and Adobe Systems settled a class-action lawsuit. Apple had already settled their patent suits with HTC and Nokia. Microsoft adds two more OEMs to the Windows Phone lineup – Blu and Amagatarai K-Touch

windows-phone-oem-blu-k-touchMicrosoft had some strategic announcements during the Mobile World Congress, in which they announced the addition of new OEM partners that had signed up for making Windows Phone devices. Some of the new additions were Indian manufacturers like Lava, Xolo, Karbonn and later Micromax. In that lineup, we have two more OEMs added to the lineup today, and they are BLU and K-Touch. BLU is possibly the Micromax of the US while K-Touch is known for being an OEM as well as a ODM, which does contract manufacturing for other companies. The addition of these two new OEMs means a wider range of Windows Phone 8.1 devices that are all set to be released in the coming months. Will the third ecosystem finally pick up some steam?

National Instruments collaborates with Nokia for 5G

Earlier this month Nokia and NTT DOCOMO had announced a pact to research on 5G technology. Today, National Instruments (NI) has teamed up with Nokia’s Network Business to work on fifth generation (5G) wireless technologies such as exploring peak data rates and cell-edge rates in excess of 10 Gbps and 100 Mbps, respectively.
