MediaTek has  entered into a partnership with Opera Software to embedded Opera Max data saving app into the MediaTek’s new 64-bit LTE SoCs MT6752 and MT6732. Both these chips are targeted at super-mid market where consumers are seeking high-performance smart devices at an affordable price. This would enable smartphones powered by these chips to consume half as much the data within the same monthly plan at no extra cost, says Opera. Samsung has cut the price of the Galaxy Core 2 to Rs. 8,007 in India, soon after the launch of Android One smartphones. Prior to the price cut it was selling for Rs.11,900 on the official eStore, which is the launch price of the smartphone. Lava rolled out Android 4.4 (KitKat) over-the-air (OTA) update for the Iris 504Q+ back in July, now the company has started rolling out Android 4.4 update for the Iris 405+ smartphone. It was launched back in January running Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The KitKat update for the smartphone should offer improved user experience through an enhanced user interface and software performance.It also brings a new dialer app. Lava is yet to release the official changelog for the update. Sony seeks $1.7 billion loss due to sluggish smartphone sales

Sony has predicted a staggering net loss of 230 billion yen ($2.1 billion) for its fiscal year ending next March. That is nearly five times the 50 billion yen loss the company’s previous forecast. The company said it would not pay a dividend this business year after it was hit by a 180 billion yen ($1.7 billion) impairment charge for its struggling smartphone division.
