The Surface Pro 3 has officially been unveiled at Microsoft’s event today, in New York. The latest addition to the family of Windows 8 powered devices from the company has decidedly gone larger with a 12 inch screen, gotten a lot thinner at 9.1mm and relatively lighter at 800g, for its size. This will officially succeed the Surface Pro 2, which was just a rehash of the original, with improvements mainly under the hood, and of course, the kick stand. The Surface Pro 3 on the other hand, is almost a whole new device, with a shift in ideas and it is indeed pushing the message of a “laptop” replacement a lot harder this time. How? Watch Microsoft unveil new Surface devices live

Microsoft is all set to unveil its new Surface devices at an event in New York today. Looking from some of the pictures being tweeted from the event, a lot of decorations at the site are related to inking, which is rumoured to get a huge push in the company’s latest push in the tablet market. This means that the Redmond company will unveil the 8 inch variant of the Surface with special inking capabilities, like a Wacom digitizer with stylus on the Surface Pro. Microsoft Research is said to have orchestrated a push for digital inking across microsoft’s services and devices, and we might just start seeing this vision take form, at this live event. Nokia X2 Android smartphone with dual-core Snapdragon 200 SoC, home button reportedly in the works

Nokia X, the company’s first Android smartphone based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) was launched in India back in March. Nokia X+ and the Nokia XL were launched in India earlier this week. A render of the upcoming Nokia X2 smartphone has surfaced on a Chinese website along with AnTuTu scores that reveals that is has a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 (MSM 8210) processor. All the X series devices are powered by 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 play (MSM8225) SoC. Now you can play Assassin Creed Pirates in your browser

Popular mobile game Assassin Creed can now be played as a free game in your browser. Microsoft has teamed up with Ubisoft to bring the game to the web that can be played using either touch input or a mouse and keyboard. The game was launched on Android, iPhone and iPad in December 2013.

Samsung sold half million smartwatches, grabs 71% market in Q1 2014

Samsung has shipped more than 5,00,000 smartwatches in first quarter of 2014, according to latest report from Strategy Analytics. The South Korean giant has emerged as a leader with by grabbing 71 percent of the global smartwatch market, up from 52.4% in 2013.

Lenovo has announced that it would start rolling out Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for both Vibe X and Vibe Z smartphones in the Vibe series starting from the last week of May in India. It launched the Vibe X, the first phone in the Vibe series in India last year for Rs. 25999. It has received a price cut and would be available for Rs. 22,999. Twitter reportedly planning to acquire SoundCloud

Twitter is trying to renter the music business with its latest acquisition plans. The micro blogging company’s attempt to venture into music failed miserably with Twitter Music which was killed mere one year after its launch. Now, Twitter is apparently trying to find its way back by acquiring audio sharing company SoundCloud, according to Re/code.

Verizon launches XLTE, offers twice the 4G LTE bandwidth

Verizon Wireless has launched XLTE, a new LTE service for their customers in select cities that would offer twice the LTE bandwidth. This uses 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum, in addition to the usual 700 MHz spectrum. Verizon promises faster peak data speeds and a minimum of double the bandwidth in high traffic areas with XLTE. Google files patent for laptop with built-in smartphone dock

Google had filed a patent for a laptop with built in smartphone device in 2012. According to reports, US patent 8,649,821 has been approved in February this year that shows a smartphone that can be detachable from a laptop. The patent do not mention anything specifically, but we may soon be seeing a laptop in the market that runs on Chrome OS which can work with an Android smartphone. Smartphone’s data connection can be used to access the internet on the laptop on the go. However, major smartphones support WiFi hotspot feature for this use. Motorola Moto 360 reportedly launching in July for 249 Euros

Motorola unveiled the Moto 360, it’s first Android Wear-powered Smartwatch back in March. It revealed few details at the launch, later Jim Wicks, Lead Designer of the Moto 360 detailed more features of the smartwatch in a live Hangout in late March. According to a French site Le Journal du Geek, Motorola would launch the Moto 360 in early July for 249 Euros (Rs. 20,000 approx). Samsung reportedly expanding biometric sensors to low-end devices, working on iris detection as well

Biometric sensors are gradually becoming a trend feature in smartphones recently. The feature was first used by Apple in its iPhone 5c last year. Soon other companies like Samsung and HTC started to add this feature in their flagship phones. Samsung, first incorporated fingerprint scanning in Galaxy S5 and now it the company is planning to expand its offering to other devices mostly low-end.

Nokia X+ and Nokia XL launched in India for Rs. 8399 and Rs. 11489

At the Nokia X launch in March, Nokia promised to launch both the Nokia XL and X+ within 60 days.  Today, Microsoft devices (previously Nokia) has launched both these smartphones in India. These were was announced at the Mobile World Congress 2014 at Barcelona in February. The Nokia X+ runs on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and looks similar to the Nokia X, but this packs 768MB of RAM, instead of 512 MB on the Nokia X.
