BSNL launches Voice & Video Telephony (VVOIP) in India

BSNL today launched it’s Voice and Video Telephony service –  VVOIP in India. IP to IP voice calls within India will cost 40 paise per minute and IP to IP video calls within India will cost Rs.2 per minute. Monthly charges for using this service will be Rs.150. International calls seem really cheap at just 1.2 paise per minute if we go by the release . BSNL has launched this service in partnership with Sai InfoSystem (India) Ltd. (SIS).

Reliance 3G iPad Plans

Reliance Communications or RCOM has outed its 3G data plans for the iPad2 and it makes a lot of sense as many iStores selling iPad2s in India are owned by Reliance Retail a sister company.Reliance has been boasting of a superior 3G network through it’s ad campaigns recently and we are not exactly sure if claims are true. HTC found guilty of violating 2 of Apple’s Patents by ITC

The International Trade Commission (ITC ) has found HTC guilty of violating 2 of Apple’s patents in the patent litigation between the two companies in the US. This is only a initial finding and the final ruling is yet to be passed. But HTC phones might be banned from being imported to the US if  the case continues in favor of Apple who seems to be holding the upper hand in the case at this point. Sony Ericsson posts a loss of 50 million euros in Q2 2011

Sony Ericsson had warned investors in March this year that it has been affected by the tragic turn of events in Japan. Today the company posted a 2nd quarter loss of nearly 50 million euros mainly due to lower number of handsets sold in the quarter due to supply chain issues. This is really a bad blow for Sony Ericsson which was slowly recovering after a lot of restructuring and shifting focus to Android. The handset maker still managed to ship 7.6 million phones during this period.

LG Optimus 3D Preview

We are lucky to get our hands on the LG Optimus 3D which is the world’s first 3D phone and the world’s first 3D smartphone. The 3D experience does not require you to wear 3D glasses as the phone packs a glassless/glassfree 3D display. You can also capture 3D Video footage and pictures talks to the 3D Stereoscopic camera on the back.The phone was announced this year at Mobile World Congress and the unit we are currently playing with looks a lot more stable and polished.  While we work on the full blown review , we decided to do a little preview considering the demand from you lovely readers.Take a look at the video below for a short overview of the Optimus 3D

Apple AppStore hits 15 Billion Downloads as store crosses 425000 apps

Apple today announced that its AppStore has crossed 15 billion downloads. Apple has over 200 million users on the  iPhone , iPad and iPod Touch.The AppStore has crossed 425000 apps and there are over 100000 native iPad apps according to company’s claims. iOS developers have been paid 2.5 billion dollars so far by the company.We have to add that the quality of apps offered on the Apple App Store is very good  compared to other platforms. If we look back a little into history , the first iPhone which debuted in 2007 never even had the AppsStore. The iPhone 3G was the first to have this functionality and was launched in 2008. 3 years down the the line,  the AppStore crosses 15 billion downloads , another feather on the cap and lots of money in the bank for Apple.

Nokia Zeta 700 Press Photos Leaked

A rumoued Nokia Symbian phone – the Zeta ( Nokia 700) running the Symbian Belle update has been leaked in press photos. We had previously heard about the 1GHz Nokia Phones last month. The Zeta might be Nokia’s thinnest smartphone  with a thickness of 8 mm.

The LG Optimus Black which we got our hands on at Mobile World Congress has been available in India for some time now and now we have official confirmation of the launch with LG calling it the World’s Brightest Smartphone. The device is priced at Rs.20990 MRP and is available for around Rs.19990 in the market. The specialty of the Optimus Black is the 4 inch NOVA IPS LCD Display. 3 million units of Samsung Galaxy S2 sold in 55 days

Looks like Samsung’s latest Android flagship – Galaxy S2 has set new sales records for the company as it has managed to sell  3million units globally in just 55 days. Not a bad number at all ! The company claims one S2 was sold every 1.5 seconds.  Although the S2 has been successful , it has  had it’s own share of problems some users have faced issues with the display and camera. We ourselves spotted a display bug in the S2 . some users also report over-heating. But for the most part , S2 users seem a happy lot. World’s First GSM Call was made 20 years ago

I graduated in Electronics and Communications and Finnish names are pretty common in any work in the wireless communication space.  Nokia’s contribution to this space is pretty huge and the latest proof is Apple agreeing to become a licensee of Nokia. Now if you are a fan of technology , the first GSM call on a commercial network was made 20 years ago between Finland’s  Prime Minister Harri Holkeri and Kaarina Suonio,vice mayor of the Finnish city of Tampere . The network was built by Telenokia and Siemens now known as Nokia Siemens Networks – for the Finnish operator Radiolinja,  now known as Elisa.
