Samsung reports Q2 2012 profits as $5.86 billion

Samsung just reported its Q2 earnings for 2012. The South Korea based company managed to rack up an operating profit of $5.86 billion which was largely due to growth in its smartphone segment. That’s a whopping 79% year on year increase.

Nuance introduces support for ‘Hinglish’ language in Swype

Most Android users have tried and tested the Swype keyboard which relies on quite literally swiping your fingers across the on-screen keyboard. It uses adaptive learning capabilities and smart algorithms to type out the current word and more. Nuance today announced that keeping in mind the Indian market where users tend to mix English and Hindi while messaging, they’ve worked on a special ‘Hinglish’ keyboard. The keyboard has a dictionary of several thousand words which are often used including chai, paani, desi, garam, masti, jungli amongst others.

In addition, the application is much smarter than before due to its added capabilities like Next Word Prediction and Multi-Modal Keyboard which are detailed below.

Apple App Store crosses 650,000 apps, pays out $5.5 billion to developers

As part of its earnings call, Apple revealed that it now has over 650,000 applications on the App Store. These include approximately 250,000 applications specifically optimized for the iPad according to Peter Oppenheimer. Having sold over 17 million iPads in the last quarter, we can only expect the number of optimized apps to increase.

Apple reveals Q3 2012 earnings: Net profit of $8.8 billion, $35 billion in revenues

Apple just announced its quarter 3 earnings for 2012 and the numbers appear to be slightly lower than the $37.4 billion expected by analysts. The Cupertino based company has reported quarterly net profits of $8.8billion which comes down to earnings of $9.32 per share.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 advertisement leaks online

A 30 second advertisement showing off the multitasking capabilities of the Galaxy Note  in addition to other features is now available online. A modeling agency, Step Management, has uploaded the video online showing the tablet being used in a business environment. Unfortunately the video does not shed light on the release date, specifications or the price.

Over 10 million Galaxy SIII sales since launch says Samsung

Back in June, Samsung had announced that the Galaxy SIII would reach 10 million sales by July and it seems that they’ve reached that goal right on schedule. Shin Jying Kyun of Samsung has announced that the Galaxy SIII crossed the 10 million sales mark since its launch on May 29th.

Google has now made the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean available for Nexus S users via an over the air upgrade. The download weighs in at about 114MB and has been restricted to being a WiFi only download.

Android Jelly Bean coming to the HTC One X and One S

HTC just confirmed that a majority of its recent smartphones will get upgraded to Android Jelly Bean. The handsets mentioned include the HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S. This is great news for owners of HTC devices seeing that almost no other manufacturer has committed to an upgrade path for their phones.
