Worldwide tablet shipments decline 8.5% in Q1 2017: IDC

The worldwide tablet market once again contracted in the first quarter of 2017 (1Q17) with total shipments of 36.2 million, a year-over-year decline of 8.5%, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. The first quarter contraction marks the tenth straight quarter that tablets have experienced a decline over the same quarter a year earlier, with the previous five quarters recording double-digit drops.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 with 7.9-inch display, 6.9mm slim metal body, 6600mAh battery announced

After several rumors, Xiaomi has announced Mi Pad 3, successor of Mi Pad 2 that was introduced back in 2015. It has the same 7.9-inch (2048 × 1536 pixels) display at 326 ppi as the first two Mi Pad tablets, but the Intel processor has been replaced by MediaTek MT8176 hexa-core processor. It has the same 6.95mm slim unibody metal design as the predecessor and also has an improved 13-megapixel rear camera. Google confirms Google Assistant is not coming to Android tablets

Earlier this month Google Assistant started rolling out to eligible Marshmallow and Nougat devices. However, the Assistant will be limited to Android phones and will not expand to tablets, as per Android Poli who confirmed the same with Google.

Indian tablet market inclusive of slate and detachables ended the year 2016 with total shipments of 3.7 million units with a marginal annual drop of 3.1 percent, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The research firm attributed the shipment decline to the continuing decrease in demand for tablets. ARCHOS has introduced 101 Saphir, its first rugged 2-in-1
tablet with a keyboard targeted at hikers, riders an outdoor workers ahead of MWC 2017. The rugged casing on the tablet can survive drops (up to 1 meter), dust and water splashes, as per the IP54 ratings.  It has a 10.1-inch IPS HD screen, is powered by a quad-core Mediatek MT8163 processor, has 1GB of RAM, comes with front and rear cameras and runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat).

Tablet shipments in India up 7.8% in Q3 2016, Datawind continues lead: IDC

A total of 1.06 million tablets including slate and detachables have been shipped in India in CY Q3 2016 remaining stagnant over the same period last year, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The total tablet shipments grew 7.8 percent in Q3 2016 over Q2 2016.
