gPhone coverage – google plans to unveil a complete mobile phone software stack

You must have heard a lot of rumors about the Google phone (gPhone) we have also covered about it some time earlier.

Now some interesting things have been happenning over the past week and Google is in Talks with wireless carriers all over the world

Google is reportedly holding an event on Monday

Rumors suggest that Google has built a Mobile Operating System based on Linux and is trying to integrate the same software including its google apps into Cellphone Hardware.

Its also in talks with carriers to sell the new Software.Hardware combo to its customers.

Is gPhone is openmoko ?

Rediff.com  reported last week that gPhone would be launched in India in September.

We also reported earlier about the gPhone from Google possibly being an iPhone Killer

Now its getting closer. Reports suggest that the gPhone runs Linux and might be a Openmoko phone customized to run Google Apps like Gmail, Gtalk,Google Mobile Maps,News , Youtube and Calendar.

Price

The price is expected to be around $100 or Rs.4000 approx for the entry level phone. There might be a high end phone with better features and might compete with the iPhone.

At this stage. This news is still a rumor and there’s not official confirmation about the phone.

But there’s enough evidence that Google is working on a phone as Google has accepted that its in talk with Operators in India

Today is August 29th and We can expect some new announcements from Nokia.

Nokia is holding a function at the Ministry of Sound Club in London later today .

gPhone the iPhone killer

We had posted earlier last year about a Google Phone Under works

Some reports suggest that Google has shown a prototype device to phone manufacturers.

Eric Schmidt of Google has known to have spoken earlier about Ad supported Free phones for users

The Google phone or Gphone might reach markets within a year.

The search engine giant does believe in a Mobile Future and has big plans for the same.

Google works with Operators and Manufacturers to bundle its products like search and mail

It has not denied rumors about the G phone plans.

The gPhone might be a iPhone killer . The gPhone will have Gmail, Gmail and Search all preloaded.

Lets wait for some official confirmation.

Nokia N81 looks likely

Its a 8 GB slider phone  and is a sequel to the N91 8 Gb edition.

Mozilla Firefox for mobile phones soon

Looks like Opera software and other mobile broswer vendors might face some stiff competition with the entry of Mozilla Firefox into the mobile arena. APC carries a news story which says

Mozilla Foundation CEO Mitchell Baker has been thinking about it too, and looking at how Firefox can be ported to mobile platforms. “

A Mini Mozilla based variant is already available for Windows Mobile devices here MiniMo .

Opera Mini works great but it will always be good to see some innovation as Mobile Browsing is a tedious job.

What will Vodafone do with Hutch ?

Hutch has changed colors since it started operations in India.

I remember seeing Hutch first in the Orange. They then changed to pink and blue.

Now after Vodafone has taken over Hutch , will Hutch move to Red synonymous with India’s other largest telecom provider Airtel.

It would be interesting to see what Vodafone does with Hutch.

Zune phone is coming

Apple’s iPod was a winner. Microsoft Zune entered the market after iPod Nano and is still struggling hard for market share. Now after the official launch of Apple’s iPhone, who knows , Microsoft might be putting together the Zune Phone.

Google phone under works ?

google_phone.jpgGoogle and Orange might be in the middle of a multi billion dollar deal to bring out a device which might be the Google Phone. Google apps will be mostly preloaded on the phone. Gmail Mobile app is already a big hit. A Gtalk Java client is also under development some folks say. Google has been embracing the Mobile ecosytem recently.Google mobile Maps and Google Mobile Local are also there. Google has always shown some interest in Location based services.

Google is already offering SMS alerts in India for its Calendar service.

This phone is expected to be launched in 2008.

Apple’s iPhone might be out in 2007

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Apple’s iPod like phone which was rumoured sometime ago will be available for purchase in early 2007.

Apple has recently placed an order for over 12 million iPhones.

It might have a 3.0 Megapixel camera and iTunes integration.

Orkut coming soon to your mobile phone

Online Social Networking is the latest buzz create by sites such as Orkut, MySpace etc.

The buzz which is now restricted to the PC may soon be seen on your mobile phone.

It can be called Mobile Communites as ET points out .

There are nearly 3 million users of GPRS in India. Operators and Service Providers see this

new buzz as a Money game to tap this elite crowd.

Mobile2win, Indiagames and Onmobile are in talks with Airtel and Reliance to launch theme

based communities across operators. Mumbai-based Indiagames is launching tadkalive , a

gaming-based community across mobile and internet.

Airtel and Reliance accept that there is a huge potential in these mobile communities are

about to unveil big plans around it.
