Mobile World Congress 2012 Schedule and Event Calendar

Mobile World Congress 2012 also known as MWC takes place in Barcelona next month from Feb 27-Mar 1.It is the biggest mobile event of the year and FoneArena is going to cover MWC 2012 in full force. As I was adding events to my calendar , I noticed that many events were overlapping. I decided to create this MWC 2012 calendar and made it public so that it will help other attendees plan their show as well. [Updated] Nokia publishes Q4 2011 results , Sells over 1 million Lumia smartphones

Nokia just published their Q4 2011 results with predictably dropping sales. What is interesting to note is that the Finnish cellphone manufacturer managed to sell over 1 million Lumia devices. Sales are 31% lower than the same quarter last year essentially selling 19.6 million units. These numbers however are 17% up since Q3 2011.

TRAI exempts 200 SMS per day limit for SMS sent to, generated by machines

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has exempted the daily SMS limit of 200 for machine to machine and person to machine messages. TRAI restricted mobile users from sending more than 100 SMS / day per SIM starting 27th September 2011, to prevent pesky marketing SMS. Nokia sells their 1.5 billionth Series 40 phone in Brazil

Nokia has announced that they have shipped over 1.5 billion Series 40 (S40) phones. Their first Series 40 phone, Nokia 7110 was developed in 1999 that offered web-based functions, including email. The 1.5 billionth phone was received by a female consumer in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. Their latest S40 phone Nokia Asha 303 with QWERTY keypad, Touch screen display and 1 GHz processor was announced at the Nokia World last year. LG Optimus LTE shipments exceed 1 million globally

LG has announced that they have shipped 1 million units of Optimus LTE, their first phone to come with LTE support and HD display. They announced the Optimus LTE in Korea last October for SK Telecom (SKT) and LG U+ that was popular from the first day in Korea that sold 5,000 units on the first day of the launch. Apple posted record breaking earnings for it Q1 2012 quarter which ended on Dec 31, 2011 clocking $46.33 billion with a profit of $13.06 billion.It managed to see 37.04 million iPhones , 15.43 million iPads and 15.4 million iPods and 5.2 million Macs. We’ve been using the Integral 32GB memory card for quite some time now in our Nokia N8 and Samsung Galaxy Note. Using it under different scenarios lets us test the limitations of hardware under real life use such as recording 1080p video or copying a lot of music. Huawei Mediapad now available in India for Rs. 28000

Huawei MediaPad is finally on sale in India from online retailers after their announcement last November. It was announced globally last June and comes with a 7-inch (1280×800 IPS) LCD display, Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS (Upgradable to Android 4.0) and it is powered by Dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor. Sony announces 8MP and 13MP CMOS smartphone image sensors

Sony has announced new 8MP and 13MP CMOS image sensors for smartphones, tablets, and other devices. These are back-illuminated stacked CMOS image sensors that would offer faster signal processing and lower power consumption. This camera would feature Sony’s unique RGBW Coding function that has low noise and high picture quality in the captured images even in low-light conditions. The Sony’s HDR (High Dynamic Range) Movie function in the 13MP camera would offer brilliant color to be captured even in bright conditions. BlackBerry maker RIM gets a new CEO Thorsten Heins

BlackBerry maker RIM has appointed Thorsten Heins as it’s new CEO. RIM has been facing stiff competition from iPhone and Android devices and lost a lot of market share in the US. The company has been drawing a lot of criticism from investors who have been demanding a management overhaul for several months now as the shares of the company have trading at lower levels. With the appointment of the new CEO, the current c0-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Basillie are stepping down from their posts as co-CEOs but will still be part of the company’s board .Despite losing market share and facing plenty of competition BlackBerry devices are still unbeatable when in comes to handling Email. But that comes with a price tag as BlackBerry devices need to be used with a special plan.BlackBerry OS 7 devices were launched last year and BlackBerry 10 devices which pack QNX are expected to be launched this year.

MTS MBlaze now in 10 more towns in Kerala

MTS has expanded its MBlaze high-speed data service to 10 more towns in Kerala that includes, Mahe, Peringanur, Neyyattinkara, Ambalappuzha, Aroor, Mannarkkad, Irinjalakkuda, Edappal, Taliparamba and Payyannur. Airtel has announced that the Easy Recharge for pre-paid customers on airtel.in now supports payments via Net banking. They launched the online recharge for the prepaid users across India last August. It had payment support via Master/Visa credit or debit cards.
