TRAI reduces transaction cost for USSD-based mobile banking and payment services from Rs. 1.50 to 50 paise

Following Demonetisation, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reduced tariff for the use of USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) for USSD-based mobile banking and payment services from Rs 1.50 to Rs. 50 to promote digital transactions through the USSD channel. Panasonic has launched Eluga Mark 2, the company’s latest 4G smartphone with VoLTE support. It has a 5.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS on-cell display, is powered by a 1.3 GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6753 processor and runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. 66% of phones in Q3 2016 were Made in India: CMR

India shipped 197.5 million mobile handsets, of which 78.4 million were alone shipped during the third quarter of the calendar year, according to CMR’s India Monthly Mobile Handset Market Review Report for 3Q 2016 ending September 2016. The report revealed that 66% of the phones in Q3 were Made in India.

Vodafone offering 4G-ready SIMs in Punjab ahead of 4G roll out, will offer free 2GB data for limited period

After Tamil Nadu, Vodafone has started offering 4G-ready SIM cards to its existing customers in Punjab (including Chennai) through Vodafone stores, Vodafone Mini Stores and close to 6,000 multi brand outlets, ahead of 4G roll out in the circle. Initially the 4G services will be launched in select towns of Punjab, said the company. Vodafone has started offering 4G-ready SIM cards to its existing customers in Tamil Nadu (including Chennai) through Vodafone stores, Vodafone Mini Stores and close to 10,000 multi brand outlets, ahead of 4G roll out in the circle. Initially the 4G services will be launched in select towns of Tamil Nadu, said the company. It will be based on 2100 MHz band 1, making the company first in the country to use the band that it had acquired recently.
