Reliance Jio unveiled its JioPhone at the 40th AGM in July and the pre-bookings for the phone began August 24th at 5:30PM. Bookings for the phone crossed 3 million in a couple of hours after the bookings opened even though there were issues booking online and through MyJio app. In 24 hours bookings for the phone crossed 6 million through online and offline channels, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Xiaomi today announced that it has sold 25 million smartphones in India since it entered the country in July 2014 with the Mi 3. It sold 22,000 phones per day on an average to reach the milestone in 3 years and 1 month. It said that it is the fastest brand in India to cross 25 million mark. Samsung unveiled the T5 portable SSD earlier this month. Today it has launched it in India. This has the same compact design and weighs just 51 grams as last year’s T3, but this offers up to 540 MB/s transfer speed and uses USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) interface compared to up to 450MB/s transfer speed and USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps) interface. Lenovo India recently started teasing the K8 Plus smartphone, few weeks after the launch of the K8 Note smartphone in the country. Today Flipkart that partnered with Lenovo for K5 Plus, K5 Note and K6 Power has announced that K8 Plus will launch exclusively on Flipkart on September 6th. Micromax has launched Canvas Plex Tab that has been co-created by teaming up with digital platform Eros Now. As a result of this collaboration, the Canvas Plex Tab will come pre-loaded with Eros Now’s library of Bollywood and regional language films, music videos, TV shows, originals and more. It will come bundled with a one-year subscription to Eros Now digital service.
Panasonic launched P77 smartphone with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) support back in September last year. Today it has launched 16GB storage version of the phone in the country, compared to 8GB RAM.
