WhatsApp for Android got new privacy settings recently, that was welcomed by the users. WhatsApp for Windows Phone would also get this feature, that would let users restrict access to your last seen time, profile photo and status. The Windows Phone app would also get an option to change the background image, by choose an image from the background gallery or manually. Nokia Lumia Icon Hands on

At MWC 2014, both Microsoft and Nokia were present. Microsoft gave a few updates regarding their progress on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 while Nokia announced a series of Android running budget smartphones. At the Pepcom event, Microsoft and Nokia had a booth where they had showcased the Nokia Lumia Icon which is a 5inch version of the company’s latest flagship – Nokia Lumia 1520.

HP adds two new Windows 8.1 tablets to its business tablets portfolio

HP is present at the Mobile World Congress 2014 event in Barcelona and has just announced a couple of Windows 8.1 tablets – HP ElitePad 1000 and HP ProPad 600. Both the tablets – HP ElitePad 1000 and HP ProPad 600 come with a 10.1inch WUXGA display.

Microsoft partners with 9 more manufacturers for more Windows Phones

One of the main reasons that Windows Phones haven’t sold as much as Android smartphones is because of the lack of manufacturers. At launch, Microsoft had only a handful of manufacturers and as Windows Phone grew, the number of manufacturers shrunk and at one point, Microsoft bought out Nokia, which was probably the only company making Windows Phones.

This is heavily requested feature amongst users especially in India and China.Dual SIM smartphones are extremely popular in India and that is one of the main reasons that Windows Phone has failed to catch up with the ever expanding Android smartphone market. With support for Dual SIM cards, Microsoft can now compete with Google in the mid-range dual SIM smartphone market. Microsoft’s SkyDrive is now OneDrive

Microsoft was involved in a Trademark fight over the name “SkyDrive” and it lost. So, they had to rebrand it and from now on, Microsoft’s SkyDrive will be called as “Microsoft OneDrive”. Microsoft’s OneDrive is one among the many cloud storage options offered by big companies of the Internet – Google offers Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and many others.

Basemark X updated to v1.1 for Android, iPhone and iPad, released for Windows Phone 8

Rightware launched the Basemark OS II cross-platform benchmarking tool for Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone 8 last month. Today it updated the Basemark X cross-platform benchmarking tool to version 1.1 and has also released it on Windows Phone 8. Basemark X that was released last year was based on Unity 4.0 gaming engine, the version 1.1 Unity gaming engine version 4.2.2. This also adds new features and a new test called Hangar. As usual you get configurable settings and score breakdown in results screen in the full version. Windows Phone 8.1 leak confirms SD card installation support, VPN and universal apps

Windows Phone 8.1 might be unveiled to the public only in April at the Build developer event, but some enterprising developers have already been able to get a preview of the SDK, as reported earlier by TheVerge. We had expected more information to pop up once it became available, and thanks to a redditor, who claims to be a high-profile WP app developer(there is proof), some details of the next big update to Microsoft’s mobile platform have leaked. While most of the details are developer-oriented, some of the long standing consumer complaints seem to have been resolved, like the support for installation of apps on the SD card, VPN support and the start of universal apps for Windows Store and Windows Phone Store.

Flappy Bird is no more, pulled from Android and iOS stores

The very infamous Flappy Bird was introduced to smartphones and tablets back in 2013, but it gained widespread popularity only in the past couple of weeks. Ever since, almost everybody was complaining about the game saying that it was tough to play. A lot of raging tweets and posts filled social media. All these voices seemed to have reached the developer Dong Nguyen as he tweeted over the weekend saying that the game would be taken down within 22 hours.

Sony sells off VAIO PC division, hopes to concentrate on smartphones and tablets

Yesterday there was news floating around the Internet that Steve Jobs wanted Sony VAIO laptops to run Mac OS X back in the 2000s and also there were rumors that Sony is looking to sell of their VAIO PC division. Today, Sony has officially confirmed that they are selling off their VAIO division. Back in April 2012, Sony had announced that they will be reforming their strategy and as a part of the process, they have identified three core areas  – imaging, game and mobile business.
