Xiaomi becomes the second largest smartphone vendor in India in Q4 2016: IDC

Xiaomi has become the second largest smartphone vendor in India in Q4 2016 with 10.7 percent market share, according to latest report from IDC. The Chinese smartphone maker also said it has sold more than three million units of Redmi 3S (includes Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime and Redmi 3S+) in less than six months.

Xiaomi today announced that it will unveil the Redmi Note 4X, an enhanced version of the Redmi Note 4 in China for Valentine’s Day, February 14th. The teaser says that it will be introduced by a new ambassador, who could be 16 years old, but it did not reveal any other details about the smartphone. Earlier rumors indicate that the phone will be powered by Snapdragon 653 SoC instead of Helio X20 in the Chinese or Snapdragon 625 in the Indian version of the Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi launched its most expected Redmi Note 4 smartphone in India last month starting Rs. 9999. Only the 3GB and 4GB RAM variants were available in the first two sales on Flipkart and the first sale on mi.com. Xiaomi has announced that the 2GB RAM version will be available for sale for the first time on mi.com tomorrow, February 3rd at 12PM along with the 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. We have heard several rumors about Mi 5C over couple of months and now some more specifications of the phone and live images have surfaced on the website of China Quality Certification center. As per the listing, a total of five models of the Mi 5C – 2105212, 2016089, 2016101, MAE136 and MBE6A5, the MAE136 are mentioned in the list. The MAE136 is believed to be the Mi 5C, also code-named Meri.

Over 2.5 lakh Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphones sold out in 10 minutes in first sale

Xiaomi launched its most expected Redmi Note 4 smartphone in India last week. It went on open sale at 12PM yesterday. Yesterday it did not announce the number of units it sold. Today it has revealed that it sold over 2,50,000 units of Redmi Note 4 units in just 10 minutes on both Flipkart and Mi.com. Xiaomi said that the first sale of Redmi Note 4 witnessed more than 3x and 5x quantity of the first sale of Redmi 3S and Redmi Note 3 respectively.

Hugo Barra to step down as Vice President at Xiaomi, will remain as advisor

Hugo Barra, who joined Xiaomi as Vice President of Xiaomi Global back in August, 2013 from Google has announced his departure from the company. He said that he will go back to Silicon Valley in February after Chinese New Year. He says that his decision has been strongly motivated by a feeling of detachment from his family and the life he had built up in Silicon Valley.
